Whilst I do agree that (if true) this is an overall security failure and agnostic to the particular party the individual is a member of - it is made abundantly clear that any and all sensitive material is not to be discussed over WhatsApp or communicated via any sort of mobile messenger (whether within the secure partition of the phone or not). It's not allowed to be transmitted over a regular phoneline in conversation either.

So while I'm sure it happens all the time, there is absolutely some personal responsibility involved and needed

No surprise there. Try taking off your anti tory goggles and look at it objectively.

The point is it isnt a "Tory" problem, it is a potential failing of the security services, MI5/MI6/GCHQ/Whomever is assigned to ensure that our national security interests are suitable, secure and enforced.

Because that same organisation will be responsible whoever is in power.

Of course. But also it’s 2 senior Tories in the dock for this. One of them is still home secretary. That is a Tory problem.

Her phone would have been vetted and authorized by the security services. Regardless of what party it was.

So again, wind your neck in.

Suggest you re-read what I posted.

Or do you think they actually just let top government ministers use their personal phones without having them likewise vetted and authorized?

You are assuming she didn't just say she was going to use her personal phone, "I'm the PM and I can do as I please". She like many politicians is clearly incredibly arrogant.

Braverman surely shouldn't of been using a personal email account but clearly she was.

I know it’s not really the thread, but this government have had serious security issues since Johnson came in. They are the biggest security risk the UK faces at the moment. Who’d have thought that was even possible?

Government are always a security risk as they communicate far more than most and very widely. Contacting Zelensky over any phone line has to be a bit dodgy and there are risks with many other countries. It must appear that Russia did not get much from a breach otherwise they would be crowing more.

Unless we did do all these things that they are now blaming us for. :D But I will not go further along these lines.

Imagine the gems they would have got from Truss’ conversations :D

The Mail on Sunday also reveals today that during the final days of her premiership, Ms Truss became fixated by the weather forecast – because of increasingly alarming security warnings about the situation in Ukraine. Ms Truss had become alarmed by reports from the intelligence services that Russia could be preparing to detonate a nuclear device in Ukraine or over the Black Sea as part of a show of strength, and was concerned about the impact of a radioactive cloud heading for the UK. ‘Liz was obsessed with the prevailing wind,’ said a source. Officials said that Putin could ‘go nuclear’ after Ukrainian forces blew up the road bridge connecting Russia and Crimea across the Kerch Strait; Putin had warned that any such attack would ‘cross a red line’ and prompt ‘judgment day’. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was told by his country’s intelligence agencies that there was a ‘very high’ risk that Russia might use so-called tactical nuclear weapons, which are designed to be used on the battlefield – but the effects would spread around the globe in the manner of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in the same country in 1986. Last week President Putin said that Ms Truss must have been ‘a bit out of it’ when she made her remarks, and claimed that he had ‘never said anything proactively about possible use of nuclear weapons by Russia’.

The interesting thing is the Russians were not happy at all when Truss became PM, she was known to be hawkish on Ukraine. They already had the nonsense pre-invasion where they tried to undermine her in the meeting with some gotcha questions and then blamed her as the reason for raising the nuclear threat level or some guff... they no doubt weren't happy about her comments that British people could go and fight in Ukraine and while I doubt there was much in the way of official business carried out on her work phone there were no doubt general vibes and opinions that could be gleaned from it.

That's probably the only redeeming thing about her time as PM, that it would have been good for Ukraine and worried Russia.
