Does it not concern anyone else that they actually thought russia might be about to detonate a nuclear device?

Yes and they still might, that's always a possibility, especially in relation to Crimea. I really think Putin will need to go first before Ukraine has a good shot at retaking Crimea.

What do you mean?

The Mail on Sunday also reveals today that during the final days of her premiership, Ms Truss became fixated by the weather forecast – because of increasingly alarming security warnings about the situation in Ukraine. Ms Truss had become alarmed by reports from the intelligence services that Russia could be preparing to detonate a nuclear device in Ukraine or over the Black Sea as part of a show of strength, and was concerned about the impact of a radioactive cloud heading for the UK. ‘Liz was obsessed with the prevailing wind,’ said a source. Officials said that Putin could ‘go nuclear’ after Ukrainian forces blew up the road bridge connecting Russia and Crimea across the Kerch Strait; Putin had warned that any such attack would ‘cross a red line’ and prompt ‘judgment day’. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was told by his country’s intelligence agencies that there was a ‘very high’ risk that Russia might use so-called tactical nuclear weapons, which are designed to be used on the battlefield – but the effects would spread around the globe in the manner of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster in the same country in 1986. Last week President Putin said that Ms Truss must have been ‘a bit out of it’ when she made her remarks, and claimed that he had ‘never said anything proactively about possible use of nuclear weapons by Russia’.

A lot of people, even those in government, just have no reference when it comes to nuclear anything - though you'd think the PM would have people who could advise of the more rational likely outcomes.

EDIT: On another note - stumbled onto some recent videos of fighting around Pisky, not really paid much attention to it - some pretty nasty stuff with close quarter battle and each side simultaneously calling down artillery on their own advance and defensive positions as appropriate.

The interesting thing is the Russians were not happy at all when Truss became PM, she was known to be hawkish on Ukraine. They already had the nonsense pre-invasion where they tried to undermine her in the meeting with some gotcha questions and then blamed her as the reason for raising the nuclear threat level or some guff... they no doubt weren't happy about her comments that British people could go and fight in Ukraine and while I doubt there was much in the way of official business carried out on her work phone there were no doubt general vibes and opinions that could be gleaned from it.

That's probably the only redeeming thing about her time as PM, that it would have been good for Ukraine and worried Russia.

Truss was never going to miss out on the chance to try and make Ukraine her Falklands.

Odd to care so much about something you have zero control over. Have some stocks of iodine tablets just in case but worrying about the weather is a bit odd.

While I understand it, annoys me a bit how much Zelensky/Ukraine government talk up the radiation threat - Chernobyl was a relatively unique situation where the composition and materials used resulted in a massive burn off and explosions which released dozens of tactical nuclear weapons worth of fallout every hour!

Much larger atmospheric nuclear tests have been carried out in the past than any likely smaller scale use of nuclear weapons or the more likely outcomes of a disaster at Zaporizhzhia in terms of global consequences.

If you go through my posts, you can see I mention Russia and our own government.

They have their hands very deep in our political system.

There are a few MPs that are not working in our interests, and this goes for all sides.

Our civil service is compromised, our system has been compromised by a few differ countries and this goes for most Western countries.

I have said this many times, I don’t like truss, I don’t like rishi and Hunt should not have access to info.

Think what you think, I posted the problem about uk universities a few months ago.

They were never our friends nor will they ever be.

The whole Chinese lock down is not because of covid.

It seems Russian losses increases to record levels

Please don't post any more of this tin hat nonsense. Ignore.

Probably directly proportional to the number of new conscripts now serving on the front lines.l Looking the Ukrainian defence ministry tweets that's one day of fighting as well.

Whilst I know what I'm looking at is Ukrainian propaganda and is best case scenario the information given is still useful to give a directional view of what's happening. It's also worth noting those daily losses are even higher then what the Russians were suffering in the early stages of the war.

Definitely taken out of context. Gaurnteed she was in a meeting and asked about the effects of weather to an expert, maybe a few more probing questions and all of a sudden was obsessed.

It isn’t really tin hat nonsense.

We’ve seen it in the past with Boris and others. Just because they currently support Ukraine doesn’t mean that the party didn’t take advantage of the money they were being given by foreign interests.

London has had and currently still has tonnes of Russian money flowing though it.

trying to drag us into it
Its because they cant admit Ukraine has the ability to do this on their own.

They still want them seen as a useless army and they are fighting NATO not just Ukraine.

NATO has however armed and trained them but I still believe Ukraine is doing it on their own without any Brits having an input into the launch

It wouldn't be good if a NATO personnel was caught at the scene.

Just about the mobile phone "thing" - it is quite possible to use a personal phone for work. We do it for BYOD devices. The work partition of the phone is secured and you can't move information between the two areas. And if you want you can remotely wipe without impacting the personal side. All pretty neat. So using a "personal" device for work is perfectly fine as long as the management and mechanisms in place are setup correctly.
Yea but you do know just how stupid Truss is, she would have been using it without thinking.
If the Russians managed to hack it she did something wrong, which means she didn't follow protocol on the device

Its always going to be a possibility right up to the end of this war however long this takes.

We have no say in this, Putler either destroys the world or he doesn't.

I did see something about him trying to use a nuke but was thwarted but others who manage to stop it. If this was true then he may keep trying.

Its out of our control
