Have just read some rumours that the oil depot in Bryansk might have been hit by Switchblade 600s. I don't know how true it is, because looking at the map it's pretty much at the extreme end of their range.

It's well outside their range, their range is supposed to be 40km, they'd have had to be fired within Russia if it were struck by them. Also, they're not all that powerful, used for targeting vehicles.

No details on the other loitering munitions recently supplied though & what their range may be but they were said to be tactical ergo I'd assume also not particularly powerful.

Ukraine does have some Tochka missiles that might have been able to reach it and possibly the recent supplies of equipment from the US could have included missiles capable of reaching it too (though that would be a bit of a risky escalation if they've basically just been handed something by the US specifically to hit these targets within Russia).

They have had those helicopter raids recently too at Belgorod, might have tried one of those again - remember they were also flying helicopters under Russian noses in and out of Mariupol for days too.

Possibly it was a super ballsy air strike by a fast jet too, though this seems less likely than a helicopter raid.

Lastly, some Ukrainian SF types or collaborators operating within Russia or indeed some Russians acting out of their own interests - there have been some mysterious Oligarch deaths, various arrests or military & security types etc.. recently - possibly some anti-Putin or anti-Ukraine invasion group within the Russian military or security services might actively sabotage things within Russia completely unconnected to any Ukrainian operations there.

Bryansk has had rail derailments too recently AFAIK.

That's the 300, the switchblade 600 has a max range of 80km and is designed to take out tanks. And the rumours are the new "ghost phoenix" version has a flight time of several hours. Any explosive could start a fire at a fuel depot though, why would it need to be particularly powerful?

Having said that, the helicopter attack in Belgorod was a Russian false flag operation, so this could be Russia trying to whip up the nation ready for declaring all out war.

Interesting. So they are seeing trouble on other borders and will have to keep a strong mitary presence there, preventing them moving forces away and to Ukraine.

this could be Russia trying to whip up the nation ready for declaring all out war.
I've lost the Twitter rabbit hole I disappeared down last night after this attack/sabotage, but there was talk of Russians collecting Ukrainian helicopter wreckage and shipping it into Russia for some unknown reason. Sounds implausible, what with transport being full of washing machines and iPhones, and it could be Ukraine trying to spread a bit of disinformation, but in a battle for whose info to believe less, the Russians are going to win every single time.

Ultimately I guess we just have to accept that every Russian setback can and will be twisted to their benefit if at all possible. And if they want an excuse to declare all out war, they could have it in ten minutes if Putin wishes.

I suspect Putin's next war will be at the top of Japan, creating options for China to partner and then extend the hostilities south into Taiwan and the South China Sea.

Russia will not be having a next war for a very long time. They need to rebuild a lot of equipment and train a lot of men due to the heavy losses they have suffered.

They threw their best at this war and they have lost a hell of a lot of them.

It will take them years and with money they dont have due to sanctions.

It's also good to see the war taken to Russian soil, to show them they can be reached.

It will be getting the civilians talking , the "Special Operation" is on their land now too.

Prices at the pump will go up again then, as if theyre not high enough.

Still can't feel bad for them, it a fair indirect consequence of the war they started.

Update on bryansk , it appears that the attacks were possibly carried out by drones. One of the depots hit is a pump station for the oil pipeline to Europe.

So there is a chance that once that fire is controlled and damage inspect, they may find Russia can no longer send oil to the EU. For now it's still on fire
