How long before we see drones with reflective coatings? Or even having VantaBlack coatings?

Black (in general, let alone VantaBlack) isn't necessarily a particularly useful colour to use; I guess it absorbs light but in general, from below, the sky is blue or at night is lighter than black and from above the ground certainly isn't.

The British Army used to issue black boots but for certain courses (for example a sharpshooter or sniper course etc..) the kit list would specify brown boots. These days issued boots are brown as standard.

There seems to be a lack of anti-drone (outside of existing AD capabilities) systems of any kind never mind laser or even jamming.

That latter part doesn't necessarily need to be drone specific and there isn't really a lack of it in our armed forces at least.

It surprises me there aren't scaled down variants of CIWS platforms for dealing with small to medium sized drones in more common use - they don't tend to be particularly stealthy or able to operate from extreme distances from their target in the most part (unlike the big stuff like the RQ-4s) and generally have little to no armour.
Something like this? (not that it's fully developed or deployed anywhere AFAIK... )

I've also wondered why systems for taking out small / medium lightweight drones aren't more common. Definitely seems like a bit of a gap.

GPS jamming is pretty common though.

I was talking more in respect to this war in Ukraine and especially the Russian capabilities utilised (or rather not utilised). Though in general it seems something a lot of armies are behind the curve on in terms of developed in use systems aside from some jamming stuff like the tech developed by the Israelis.

That seems on paper a pretty effective system and could have great point defence value i.e. defending a static base - but potentially overkill and a lot more bulk and power required, etc. than needed for defences on a small convoy, etc. mostly they won't need to worry about stuff outside of ~2km so potentially even hot rifle rounds would work with the right tracking system.

Some Russian counter-UAV systems both EW and hard kill variants are starting to appear on the battlefield but they don't seem overly effective.

I'm sure airburst munitions as that oversized gun was firing would do fine at trashing a fragile drone. They never went out of fashion for anti air purposes whether it was a giant AA shell or a proximity missile.

Demo dodges all the hard part though. Hovering drones could be taken out by a ukranian grandmother with a brick. A small or medium drone moving like a spooked dragonfly at medium range would be quite the challenge to hit without obscenely overkill aoe devices.

Depending on what you mean by medium range but with the right tracking and prediction systems even spread bursts of even something like .22 creedmoor via a Gatling system would probably deal with most situations against smaller through to medium size drones - though air-burst is better.

Would definitely be a lot harder if they were flying at top speed and dodging all over the place, but surely when you're firing 1000 rounds a minute it just means it takes a couple of seconds more shooting per target and you might have to spread the aim points over a wider area, but you'll still be able to fill the entire volume that the dodging drone might have flown through with shrapnel.

I'd like to see that demonstrated though, video would definitely be more impressive too...

At slightly longer ranges maybe the best solution would really be another drone or very lightweight missile to get up close to actually hit it or detonate a warhead nearby

At longer ranges guided munitions or another drone would probably be the more effective counter. But generally at longer ranges they are to varying degrees less useful or at least less of a direct threat.

There are systems that already exist to shoot down missiles that travel at far higher speeds than drones. It’s a relatively trivial problem for them albeit perhaps a bit overkill.

Should be quite easy to jam any commercial drones dropping grenades or directing artillery etc.. The lighter military type drones can be shot down with MANPADS.

Dunno if it is training or tracking actual movements but bunch of RAF maritime patrol and AWACS, etc. up over the UK currently as if monitoring ships or subs.
