Russians getting desperate. Can’t wait for the day when Ukraine capture it all back.
How long before we see drones with reflective coatings? Or even having VantaBlack coatings?
There seems to be a lack of anti-drone (outside of existing AD capabilities) systems of any kind never mind laser or even jamming.
Something like this? (not that it's fully developed or deployed anywhere AFAIK... )There seems to be a lack of anti-drone (outside of existing AD capabilities) systems of any kind never mind laser or even jamming. It surprises me there aren't scaled down variants of CIWS platforms for dealing with small to medium sized drones in more common use - they don't tend to be particularly stealthy or able to operate from extreme distances from their target in the most part (unlike the big stuff like the RQ-4s) and generally have little to no armour.
GPS jamming is pretty common though. There seems to be a lack of anti-drone (outside of existing AD capabilities) systems of any kind never mind laser or even jamming. I've also wondered why systems for taking out small / medium lightweight drones aren't more common. Definitely seems like a bit of a gap.
Kinetic capabilities yes not so much but they've got Krasukha out there. One was seized remember?I was talking more in respect to this war in Ukraine and especially the Russian capabilities utilised (or rather not utilised). Though in general it seems something a lot of armies are behind the curve on in terms of developed in use systems aside from some jamming stuff like the tech developed by the Israelis.

Demo dodges all the hard part though. Hovering drones could be taken out by a ukranian grandmother with a brick. A small or medium drone moving like a spooked dragonfly at medium range would be quite the challenge to hit without obscenely overkill aoe devices.
Would definitely be a lot harder if they were flying at top speed and dodging all over the place, but surely when you're firing 1000 rounds a minute it just means it takes a couple of seconds more shooting per target and you might have to spread the aim points over a wider area, but you'll still be able to fill the entire volume that the dodging drone might have flown through with shrapnel.I'm sure airburst munitions as that oversized gun was firing would do fine at trashing a fragile drone. They never went out of fashion for anti air purposes whether it was a giant AA shell or a proximity missile.

At slightly longer ranges maybe the best solution would really be another drone or very lightweight missile to get up close to actually hit it or detonate a warhead nearby

I'd like to see that demonstrated though, video would definitely be more impressive too...
If they get those they can pretty much wipe out every russian ship in the black sea and even the ones docked in crimeaYikes, this could be quite an escalation, US potentially supplying Harpoon missiles or similar to Ukraine:
