I see the US has decided to make a military commitment to Taiwan - that could be interesting and leaves a lot of questions over Ukraine.

Things aren't looking to great for Ukraine in Donbas, slowly but surely they are getting pushed out of the Luhansk area and some forces are under threat of being surrounded if they don't pull back.

Russia seems to be digging in in other areas and focussing on putting the squeeze on Donbas while Ukraine seem to be trying to break Russia's ability to fight by grinding them down and disrupting their supply lines, while not necessarily meeting them head on in every area. It is probably going to be a race to see whether Russia can push through before Ukraine can impact their ability to sustain the push.

By the looks of it Russia are just shelling Lyman indiscriminately with Msta-S, various MLRS, etc. just going 1km square sections at a time not even targetting anything specific.

Dunno quite how these drones work but an RQ-4 which was doing tracks in the Black Sea squawking 7600 and seems to have aborted its mission early. 7600 is usually used for loss of communications so wonder if these drones have a system to automatically go into a recovery program on loss of communications with the operator which is being carried out here.

EDIT: Now turning back again no longer squawk 7600

Just discovered (I mean obvious I guess) that there is an active young communist party in the UK. To say they are delusional is a little bit of an understatement. That's right... because you feel things might be unbalanced in the current system, throw your weight behind the LEAST balanced and MOST corrupt system going, where most countries turn into dictatorships. Brilliant.

Discovered this due to them burning a NATO flag /rolleyes. (note, they couldn't even do that right, with the flag failing to burn completely (representing the failed assault on Ukraine IMO lol), and there is a dry grass field behind them, so they could easily have started a wildfire. Muppets.

I actually believe this is there new (old really) tactic. They aren't combat effective on the ground, so have to rely on softening everything, and I mean everything up first. They really don't give a **** at this point.

1) They can't decide whether they are their to murder Ukrainians or liberate them.
2) They are in it for the long haul, and it will be a slow grind.
3) Ukraine will need to get crazy with how to counter attack, like dropping in behind enemy lines, full guerilla.
4) Can only hope that pressure builds inside Russia against Putin and his cronies.

Wonder what Russia's fascination is with these Iskander missiles (aside from the tactical nuclear potential) they've apparently despatched additional brigades to each of Belarus and the border with Finland and mixed reports of whether they've beefed up the Iskander brigade in Kaliningrad or taken from it to supply the units sent to Belarus and Finish border region. On their own they don't really seem to add much.

Yeah - there seemed to be the notion that Ukraine would put down their arms when confronted with force and to a degree welcome Russian occupation - when that didn't happen they've slowly switched back to their old ways. Unfortunately where Ukraine can't project significant presence in the air they are quite exposed to massed Russian artillery.

Pretty much SCUD missiles. Induce more fear than anything else. They aren't accurate as far as I can tell. - Although looking it up, looks like they can fire a cruise missile.

Russian isn't going to have much of an army left if they keep this up though.

They can be a fairly accurate platform at least on paper - the opening round of Iskander strikes against Ukraine lacked for accuracy but I think they've corrected that now - I'm not sure if that was due to lacking calibration, old data or internal sabotage - if you look at for instance airfields where they fired several of them they all were offset from the target by a peculiarly similar amount.

UKR either need to counter attack their right flank here ASAP or get their men the hell out of Severodonetsk. They are about to be encircled

Interesting note by Brandon Herrera that some of the weapons seen in use in this Ukraine conflict were designed closer to the American Revolutionary War than to the current conflict.
