Sorry for maybe being behind the times but I just saw this:

£1200 for a card? That's insane. Realistically, how much better would something like that be than a X1900XT and what kind of markets are these cards for?

thats just a 7900GTX with quadro graphics bios and setup for use with work applications, think of it in the same way as a opteron is to an athlon 64 what a 7900gtx is to quadro (same sort of thing, ones a business card, ones mainstream, but its the same 'tech level') I dare say it would probably overclock better due to more rigorous screening and testing, buy it, flash it to 7900gtx and clock it to like 850 core :p

Presumably you could play Prey and Oblivion on high settings though :D

Not really  quadros (drivers and bios) are geared for 3dmax, so gaming is far from optimised, from what iv read over years its usally like 20/30% slower in games while being that much faster in work apps

a good answer weather u were bein sarcy or not ;) :p

Professional cards simply aren't worth it for gaming. Much better off getting a 8800GTX SLI setup (with a new PSU to boot!)

I see what you are getting at - but maybe an over simplification (slightly)

Of course a CPU can be (and in the case of the Opty "was") optimised in a general sense which tended to speed up everything in comparison to the A64 (OS, games and benchies )- due to the nature of graphics requirements from a business workstation point of view these graphics cards could actually slow all of the above down (due to non optimisation of drivers etc and general card design / compatability)

At the end of the day it wouldnt really be worth it - the high price of the quadro only make it applicable for business use really , as even better desktop cards are available more cheaply
