Ultramarines: The Movie

Terminator squads over Space Marines though. Always. ;)

Terminator's are space marines :p

Space Wolves>Ultramarines

Hell. Yes.

Ultramarines are the home made knitted jumpers of the space marines chapters.

When the trailer for Dawn of War first appeared many people said that if they made film it would have to look like that - it does.

The DoW video looks ten times better than that trailer, the animation is much better and the action looks better.

It looks so bad.

It's a shame because it could be amazing. Instead, it's one of the worst things I have ever actually seen.

It's much worse than the Dawn of War intro cinematic. What does that tell you?

Lol, I know you weren't.

What are the books like ? Any good ?

varies, anything written by Dan Abnett is pure gold (particularly the Eisenhorn and Ravenor trilogies, both follow inquisitors and are very, very well written.)

Also the Horus Heresy series is already one of the best sci-fi series I have ever read, lots of different authors but I've enjoyed every one so far.

"For the fans of 40k".

From the trailer however it looks like a poor fan-made CGI short.

This by the looks of it. :(

It would be awesome if they did make a big budget blockbuster, isn't WH40K one of the biggest fictional creations along side Lord of the Rings and Star Wars? Anyway, it will be fully checked out but I get the feeling it's going to be like a 90 minute FMV.

No longer a collector by a long way, although I have considered buying the odd model just to paint, I'm sure I'd still enjoy that. I've just started the Heresy books as well and loving it so far. :)

I looked into doing that a few months back but the prices are just obscene now! It's literally 250% the price it was when I gave it up, single miniatures can be over a tenner!! Think the paints are over twice the price as well.

Yeah I'd need loads of different paints, that coupled with the cost of brushes/tools and some decent models just puts me off really.

Seen a trailer for this at games day a while back, it looked really good but doesnt let too much onto how the story will go. It backed up by Dan Abnett so as bad as the GFX and sound effects could be, the storyline should be pretty damn good as the guys a legend for the way he twists and turns stories.

For the people saying it was made for the fans, well yes, it was made for the fans. One of the guys that was in charge of development was at games day demonstrating it, and to quote him "Whats the point in making a film about 40k if we cant do it without annoying the fans".

Yeah it really can be a bit of a joke, the paints I dont think are too bad for price, its the brushes that they sting you on. Thankfully im almost finished painting for quite some time soon. The models themselves arnt TOO bad as long as you dont buy everything seperatly, ive managed to knock up a 1800 point Tau army for about £200 (Case included), but thats a few fancy models off forgeworld too.

I have a feeling this will be poor.
I have a feeling this will not be true to the correct history and lore.
I have a feeling they will have bad acting.

I REALLY hope Im wrong and I'll be ordering

I can guarantee pretty much you'll be wrong about point 2. It's written by Dan Abnett and GW would not let anything get past the planning stage if it wasn't entirely accurate to the lore. They are very control freakish over their licenses.

Bad acting....you mean animated acting or voice acting? I think the cast looks pretty damn strong, no-one can argue with John Hurt.

God can't believe all the naysayers in this thread! I thought people would be pleased that finally someone is making a film based on the great 40k franchise and all I hear is misery! Plus Dan Abnett has written the story and is accompanied by a great voice cast.

Well, I for one am pleased. This, coupled with Space Marine out next year means that the ball is rolling ever bigger, and it's just a matter of time before we see Horus bring chaos to the Imperium on the big screen!
