God can't believe all the naysayers in this thread! I thought people would be pleased that finally someone is making a film based on the great 40k franchise and all I hear is misery! Plus Dan Abnett has written the story and is accompanied by a great voice cast.

Well, I for one am pleased. This, coupled with Space Marine out next year means that the ball is rolling ever bigger, and it's just a matter of time before we see Horus bring chaos to the Imperium on the big screen!

Completely agree.

Why not just accept the rough edges and enjoy GWs first attempt at a feature film. I also think cartoon/CGI is more appropriate because a real life 40K film would probably need the budget equal to the UK deficit to make it worthwhile.

If this sells well they will make more. I've pre-ordered mine.

There is a Space Hulk FPS!

Ok.. it's from 1993... but its awesome!

I remember that nostalgic slice of Amiga gaming, it was great battling against genestealers :D

Didn't it also have a map option where you could see the FPS view of all your Space Marines at the same time, a bit like the compound assault at the beginning of Aliens.

I can guarantee pretty much you'll be wrong about point 2. It's written by Dan Abnett and GW would not let anything get past the planning stage if it wasn't entirely accurate to the lore. They are very control freakish over their licenses.

Bad acting....you mean animated acting or voice acting? I think the cast looks pretty damn strong, no-one can argue with John Hurt.

While I'd love to agree, even though it is written by someof my favourite authors, it need s to be turned into a film. even little things like the way the marineas come across, the things they say...i feel turning the story to a script will bugger it up.

for the acting...probably more the voices rather than the animation. i think it can get away with being a little "cartoony" but the snip[et i heard for Jon Pertwee (I think it was) doing a cockney style marine? No.

This movie does look pretty freaking awesome. John Hurt (perfect voice), Terence Stamp, Seanm Pertwee... I have a feeling that its going to be worth a watch for any fan. Can't wait! :D

Judging by the quality of the CG only, you could fund about 2 minutes of Avatar with this films entire budget. Not necessarily a bad thing, as I would think they are just about aiming to break even with this, and maybe produce a few more if it does well enough.

I absolutely love WH40K artwork, but I don't like the style of this movie. I wish some of the official WH artists like Alexy Boyd or Paul Dainton could have had some input in the art direction.

varies, anything written by Dan Abnett is pure gold (particularly the Eisenhorn and Ravenor trilogies, both follow inquisitors and are very, very well written.)

Also the Horus Heresy series is already one of the best sci-fi series I have ever read, lots of different authors but I've enjoyed every one so far.

Also Gaunts Ghosts when he could be bothered to put some effort into them i.e. first 5, pretty trashy since then.

Horus Heresy is a great series, just about to start reading the new one tonight First Heretic.

Can't believe I didn't hear about this till last night, placed an order straight away.

I have 2 hopes

1. It isn't terrible
2. It doesn't awaken a deep desire to start painting again, i can't afford it :(

Shame they used the Ultramarines, though I suppose they are pretty bog standard and the safe option.

Hopefully the sequal by Michael Bay will focus on the Angry Marines :p

IMOH the WH40k universe is far too complex and deep for movies to ever do it justice, it would need a tv series with a decent budget, then you could get in the politics and back story, we can only dream though.

will watch this movie as space marines are epic cool, more chaos man my self though, cant beat a Chaos Dreadnought
