Hi all,
Not sure if anyone ever uses their UV codes which come with a small number of DVDs and BluRays. I had a spare couple of hours to kill over the weekend so thought I'd take a look and see how it all works.
It seems very complicated to me.
If I understand it correctly, I create my Ultraviolet account which is my digital locker. Then I create a retailer account with flixter, talktalk, sainsburys etc etc and link the two accounts together. When I enter the code, I have to select a retailer to reedem the movie. Say I pick talktalk, that links it with Ultraviolet and becomes the default retailer for playback on that particular film. I can watch my UV movies at any retailer (if they have the rights!!), but this is the bit I don't understand. What limits (if any) are imposed?
Say for example I login to talktalk with 10 devices, sainsburys with 10, flixster with 10 and so on. I understand each retailer has a set download limit, but is that globally or per retailer? If talktalk has a download limit of 5, and flixster 5 does that mean I can download it 5 times or 10? also, if I don't want to download but just stream, are there any limits for that? talktalk say a 5 device limit for even streaming but I can't see any devices recorded on my account.
I've emailed ultraviolet about this. They inform me there are no limits from them, and they support 3 simultaneous streams at once. That doesn't mean that the retail has limits though. Talktalk say one stream at once, flixster doesn't mention it in their t&cs.
It seems an easy way of getting my films into the cloud for streaming, but I can't say I fully understand it.
My brief testing with it seems to suggest I forget about sainsburys and cinemanow as they hardly have any films, flixster is the best with talktalk a close second. Then there's the whole app debacle. Flixster has mobile apps, but no apps for Plex, Xbox1, Ps4. Guess that means I need to invest in a chromecast then.
Disney has there own version of ultraviolet called Disney anywhere but not launched in the UK yet. That means no Disney, Pixar, Marvel or Star Wars.
It really does seem that KAT is still the way forward lol but don't want to leave my plex machine on all the time if I can help it.
Why do they make legally owned films so difficult to stream.
