Unable to access 3G Orange Internet abroad...

I set up a customer with Orange 3G access on their laptop using their Sony Ericsson phone and data cable, and it works a treat for them.
She is currently in Italy and unable to access Orange's 3G network. What could be the problem - does the phone's 3G settings need changed for abroad, or could their tariff possibly not allow access from outside the UK? (She mentioned something about 'roaming' but I don't know if that is significant)

You can only use 3g if the network you're attached to overseas supports it.

To use 3G in italy she needs to be logged on to Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) as they are the only bearer that supports 3g roaming.

It's also worth noting she'll be paying £8/meg while she's overseas.
