Underrated/cult movies?

Half the stuff here is really highly regarded already and nothing like a cult or underrated classic.

Also a cult is technically less than a minority so you'd need to have a fairly small, yet vocal/passionate fanbase for a movie to be a cult classic. Think some crap like Wiseaus 'The Room' which edgelords jump on to somehow elevate their movie tastes above everyone else - it's a terrible film by any metric but deride it and it's you that's the problem because 'you just don't get it'

With that said, cult classic is used so loosely with movies, it doesn't matter too much.

Rocky Horror Picture Show, Braindead, Evil Dead 2 - those are all cult.

Ok, maybe not a cult movie, but it is one that, to me is underrated. Time Trap.
I watched it on Prime on the off chance one evening a couple of years ago. I was hooked. Acting not the best, I think all unknowns, but adequate. The plot and general over all theme and idea was really good and the ending made me want more, just like, an extra 10 minutes to expand on the ending really.

really good film, certainly not Oscar worthy, but up there with some great sci-fi movies.

Edit: Ahh. Maybe these two to add. Class of 1984 and Class of 1999.

So many differing definitions of a cult movie, but the ones that I like and think are cult movies:

Rocky Horror Picture Show
U.H.F.
Office Space
Evil Dead Trilogy
Clerks
They Live
Empire Records
El Mariachi
The Rutles
Dawn of the Dead
This Is Spinal Tap

These are all pretty much movies that were cult status but due to actually being good a lot more popular (like most in these lists). Some of my favourites and ones I heard about looking for similar things over time:

(Rec)
Donnie Darko
Twelve Monkeys

Back
Top Bottom
