Not a good end to a night shift and I was almost home lol :(

Filled up at asda pumps and on my way out the car park the just went down as I turned.
Lucky someone helped me get the bike up but it's all scratched up on the right side and my head took a good smack as well.

The car park not been gritted at all it seems so I don't know if I can do anything.
Went and spoken to asda manager he said the car park is owned by smart parking.

Smart parking have cctv about the place.
Worth calling insurance?
Just spent £600 on it last few weeks.

Sorry to hear that :(

Unfortunately, whether its gritted or not won't affect your case.

What's the damage? Have you got pictures?

He might get a personal injury claim out of it which could go towards fixing his bike.

If the land owner makes money by letting the public use it I imagine there is a duty of care in maintaining the safety of said land.

Should have noticed it before hand not after you crashed.
I wouldn't expect it to have been gritted.
round where I live I don't think I have ever seen one gritted, hell my street doesn't even get done.

I did the same at a tesco car park, traveling very slowly as I knew there was a chance of ice, still, the bike slid beneath me. Tesco were actually very helpful but I didn't try and push the blame to them. When it's icy, and you are on a bike, you simply can't expect every bit of tarmac to be clear.

I am glad you only dropped it on a car park though rather than at full speed, at least only the bike is damaged =)

Blaming or trying to get money from whoever owns the car park wouldn't even cross my mind. We choose to ride bikes when it's this cold and that is unfortunately one of the risks that you have to accept - you might drop it or slide off. Just be glad you didn't go in to anyone and don't have to deal with insurance - liability, excesses, legal stuff, paperwork and so on...

You could go through your insurance if you have full comp at the expense of then having a claim on your name. That could be cheaper in the long run if you caused a good few hundred £ of damage.

It happens, fix up the bike and move on.

I had the local garage do me a list of bits that needed replacing when I dropped mine on ice in January in case I wanted to go through insurance.

The final bill would have written the bike off and it was very minor damage.

Risks of owning a bike, they could quite easily blame your riding or your tyres or your decision to ride in those conditions.

The bike not too bad just more scratches lol.
I will see what my insurance says today but it's mostly my helmet that I need to replace so not a big deal.

The car park is part of an asda store and the manager said they normally grit it but for some reason did not that night.

Don't get me wrong I am very happy nothing major got broken and I would rather nothing happened at all.

Cheers.

Don't even mention it to your insurance, if it's just your helmet that needs sorting it's not worth the premium increases/excess.

Before contacting insurance, you should probably get some new quotes on the bike with 1 fault claim and 0 NCB (unless you have protected NCB of course). Going through insurance probably won't be worth the premiums increase, especially if you don't have protected NCB.

Your right I did speak to them and they said they don't have to grit the car park so no point taking more action only if I was hurt but I am fine so all good.

So just going to buy new helmet and keep clear of the car park first thing in the morning :)

I've ridden in show and ice several years running. It takes quite a bit of care and restraint, especially if your bike isn't anywhere near suitable, but it can be done in an emergency... or if you're just stupid, like me.

But in all that time, the only road surface that was ever a slippery, treacherous, fishtaily problem for me was actually a Tesco car park.
