Ok, so We've just had our final inspection and got the reports and we've got loads of stupid charges, like £65 per wall if there are any BlueTac marks on them.

Now I am moving out on Fri/Sat and so need to make sure that my room and the general flat is decent condition. I had a few posters up which I just took down, do the greasy marks that are left by BlueTac fade, or can they be scrubbed out using some form of scrubbing solution?

I don't fancy paying £130 for 8 almost not noticeable bluetac marks in my room, and then more ontop of that for any in the living room and corridor.

If there is any way to make them less noticeable can people tell me, also if they know that they will fade over the next few months can they post up too.

An example of said marks is here, they don't come out well on photo, and they aren't that bad, but the place seems to be strict.

Cheers.

Never had to pay for blutac marks in my day :D An intact wall was a bonus in my first year hall. Try a little washing up liquid if you are concerned but in your mates room obviously.

Halfrauds stock things like sugar soap don't they?

Looks like I'm going for a walk.

Never heard of it in a car place - it's used for preparing surfaces for decorating mostly - homebase perhaps?

If you've got a shared kitchen, you'll have to worry about that more. Thats where charges are usually incurred because they have to pay for cleaners to come in and clean up after your mess.

I with hold my last months rent as a rule, if there is a problem he will have to bill me for them.

Tipp-ex?

You can probably judge whether you will get charged for it based on the state of the room when you moved in. My uni accommodation was pretty poor so a few greasy marks, blue-tack stuck in carpet and pin holes didn't really matter.

My halls are 2 years old at the end of the year, and the flt was nice when we came into it. There are a few charges in the kitchen/living room, but they are easy enough to sort out, plus it gets divided up between 5 people. I have two walls with bluetac on, and so thats £130 for paint, unless I do the whole wall myself...before I leave on Sat

Well I went to Asda, Halfruads (sometimes they sell random hosue things), Staples (just 'cause it was next to Halfrauds and I could look at shiney PC things :D), a plumbing shop, a hardware store, and finally a decorating shop which had some in stock.

Nice afternoon out walking around Bournemouth/Boscome...shame I was wearing a black T shirt and no sunglasses...It's all hot and minging :(

Now to test this sugar soap...better work.

lol

Well I just tested some using a sponge and spraying it on the wall...removed loads of paint!!

Seems to have done the trick. Once I realised that: Sponge + Sugar Soap Spray + Me = Disaster I then thought how best to do it, use kitchen roll, spray it onto that then hold that on the wall for a bit and scrub a bit, some paint comes off, but basily what you are doing is etching away the greasey paint from the spot anyways.

It seems to be ok, but to be honest you'd be better off sleeping upset tonight :p

Will update when it's actually dried in a bit.

Not necessarily. My boyfriends old flat wasn't in great condition when they moved in, but when they were leaving, they got told everything had to be immaculate. They had no way to prove the initial condition, so they were charged for cleaners and paint for things like the kitchen skirting (which was already filthy), and walls which already had blutac marks.

When I left halls, I went downstairs and told them I would be moving out and they then came up with me and checked the room. I quick 30 second nosey and she said yep, that's fine, not even wear and tear. So she signed me off and I went home and the only thing our flat was billed for was an unauthorised use of a fire extuingisher by some idiots who broke into our flat.

worked out a pound each, wish I had had a go with it now before I took it down, seeing as we had paid for it to be refilled.

Nope. My bf's old flat was cleaner when they left than when they moved in and they still got charged £180 for "damages" that were already there when they moved in. :(

We had to fill out pre-move in inspections. On the day we moved in we were given these forms to fill out if there was anything wrong, so I used it, some people noted down stuff that they figured would happen over the year so they wouldn't have to worry about it.

We were told not to put posters etc. on the walls due to bluetac marks etc. but I didn't think it to be a big deal...which it isn't I'd just like to make sure that I avoid losing money.

We have to book our moving out days, and whilst I would like to book Sat, my deductions will be based on my room and the corridor and kitchen/lounge area, which seeing as I'm the only one not staying till the end of the tenancy people aren'y prepared to clean (and keep clean) the shared areas. There is no point me cleaning as by the evening it'll be a mess again so I'd still lose out on the shared area. I'm sorting my room completely, and getting my mate to hand my keys in when she leaves (she's sensible so no worries there) because it means I won't get over charged due to messy gits. :)

Either withold the last months rent or take lots of pics when you move in, I normally do both.

Being halls we are charged in advance for each term, not for a month. So withholding rent just gets you kicked out before exams.

You were told not to, but you did it anyway?

We're gonna get charged loads, they make up charges just to rip you off generally.

One time they tried to charge us for stains on the stairs (which were they and on the original list of problems when we moved in), once I emailed saying they were there before they said "oh, so it was"...

classic Uni's, anything to make a quick buck

Shhhh ;)

In all fairness they can't expect first year students to play by the rules...I think when someone complete ******* idiots threw pumpkins and tvs around out the windows etc. they realised this.

To be honest I have not many marks, I had two posters for the whole year. A couple of my flatmates have like 5+ posters aswell as photos etc. plastered allover their walls using bluetac.

I doubt they will be fussed about mine, but it's just to be on the safe side that I'm trying to sort it.
