Hi all.

Not sure whats happening here really. PC was fine yesterday and has been since the day i built it. Booted today and it's not connecting to the internet at all.

It's an ethernet connection, it has the globe symbol there and if i hover over it says 'Unidentified' network.

Tried rebooting the PC and the router, changed ethernet cables too, but still nothing happens?

It's almost as if the PC can't figure out an IP address? It's throwing up the '169.254. x.x' IP address, so i'm not sure why/how it's not seeing the DHCP server?

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Just a quick update. Managed to fish out an old usb WiFi adapter. That's working fine.

I'm going to assume the ethernet port is dead here, surely that makes sense?

I'll look at ordering a new one, along with a more recent USB adapter.

Nightmare

Another quick bump.

I've found a USB to Ethernet that came with the laptop and that's giving me the same issue. Just doesn't want to work at all.

Stick the Wifi adapter back in and it's up and running, working fine?

Have you tried just forcing an ip release and renew via cmd? Or perhaps a netsh tcp/ip stack reset may help? No other kit between the ethernet connection and router (I.e homeplugs)?

You've confirmed that the ports on the router are working, and all of the cabling from there to the PC?

Preferably connect a different device to the end of the cable that normally connects to the PC and make sure it works.
