Unreliable Boots

I think I exposed some brass within the motherboard however it's all still intact, The booting problems persisted before the new cooler was installed (before drilling the holes in the motherboard) however how can I check what these BSOD's mean?
 
Just booted it up like 8 times without any problems, started 8 times first time then it power on and then off 8 times before booting on the 9th attempt it seems weird, if the Motherboard was broke surely it wouldn't boot at all and just be rolling BSOD.
 
I had already done it before they said not to do it. Regardless of the motherboard these booting problems were still there will stock cooler. If there was damage to the motherboard I would hope it'd BSOD all the time or just not boot at all. Once the PC is on it's completely stable.
 
I dont think you've damaged it.
Just try resetting the cmos.

Mine does it sometimes if the system doesn't like my overclock profile. The powering down etc reverts it back to stock.

Dave thank you very much for your serious input" rather than taking the mick however my overclock profile is done by the overclock profile, the booting problems happen both when it's at stock and overclocked? :D
 
The MSI Z77A-GD55 has a small button on the rear I/O panel for clearing the CMOS.

Disconnect the power cable from the PC.

Hold the case power button down for a few seconds to discharge any residual power.

Press the small button for a couple of seconds.

Job done.

Off out now, I'll check back later.

Surveyor when I try to get my RAM to 1600MHZ the voltage goes to 1.648 or something silly? Will the CMOS change make it normal voltage again?
 
The easiest way to set up the RAM is to enable the XMP profile in the BIOS if your RAM supports it.

If your RAM is of the 1.5V variety then leave it at that.

I've not seen any particular recommendations on RAM voltage with Ivy Bridge so ~1.65V may be perfectly fine.

Quite often 1.65V RAM will run with less voltage if you want to try that.

Enable the XMP profile and you can then set the DRAM voltage manually, perhaps try 1.55V which most will work at.

If 1.55V works then you can leave it at that or try and lower it further if you wish.

If it needs a little more then so be it.
 
Surveyor I've got my ram at 1600MHZ :), however I've turned the OC Genie off on my Motherboard then cleared CMOS, booting seems fine now however my processor at stock is 3.4GHZ however it's going to 3.6GHZ no idea why how can I go about overclocking to 4.2-4.4 maybe? :D
