up gr4aded from 4870 to a 4870X2 and getting lower fps ?

Very potentially cpu limited but, out of interest did you have Vsync on?
For me with 5850 xfire'd Just Cause 2 in particular was WAY slower with vsync on. I'd get stuttering and when turning around it would dip into the 30's and slow down a lot as I turned, while with vsync off it stayed well above 100fps, smooth all the time without stuttering when turning.
Some games react really strangely to vsync these days.
