Seen above, the upcoming board features 6 phase PWM and supports Athlon II or Phenom II CPUs with a TDP of up to 140W, and has a black PCB, a relatively beefy cooling system, four DDR3-1800 memory slots, the BIO-unlocKING technology for unlocking processor cores, and four PCI-Express x16 slots for CrossFireX setups.

The TA890FXE includes one eSATA and five SATA 6.0 Gbps ports, Gigabit Ethernet, 7.1 channel audio, a FireWire connector, a debug LED, and nothing but solid capacitors.

hope the actual chipset is something worth buying over the 790fx.
as opposed to the 890gx, which im a bit disappointed in. my full rant:
tbh im a tad disappointed with this new chipset, and im glad i got impatient and got a 790gx board. i thought they would have at least shrunk it to 40nm, its more of a 795gx (ie its to the 790gx exactly as the 785g is to the 780g).
The only thing that could possibly tempt me is the new sata specs, but i think ill wait for the next chipset generation. Thy even removed ACC :/ (yes the asus has the little extra chip thing, but im pretty sure most wont...)

at least the southbridge has some promise...

Should be interesting. The sound card is now integrated to the mb on the crosshairs now? Apart from 6 core support I'm hoping they're a nice improvement over the 790FX. The 890GX seemed like a let down to me as a sucessor of the 790GX.

I know this is an AMD chipset thread, but it annoys me how little Nvidia/AMD boards there are.

seeing as intel decided nvidia cant make chipsets for them now, i think nvidia just cant be arsed to make any. period.

there are a couple of 980a boards floating around for AM3 (just a 780a with ddr3 support), but i do see what you mean...

Asus Crosshair IV Extreme looks gd, i agree with jrwagh333.
would be nice if these new boards offered support for SLI or Crossfire like Intel

Am torn between the asus and the gigabyte. Have owned asus boards all the way so far and to be honest i've found their overclocking capabilities quite poor and flaky despite the masses of options in the BIOS. Also have issues with vdroop and just poor accuracy with regards to the core voltage in general.
Anyone know whether or not gigabyte boards are better in terms of voltage etc?

if my msi 790fx gd70 is anything to go by that new 890fx is gonna be an awesome mobo, just cant believe they've put that many pci e x16 slots on it though mines got 4 and thats enough for anyone i think.

that crosshair formula worries me slightly as the top heatsink is not covering all the power chips! - more for show I'm guessing.

The Biostar board looks like the good old DFI boards!

My 890GX is running perfectly fine oc-ing a 965 to 3.8 @ 45-50 Degrees under load ([email protected]) - not sure why its slated! 2400Mhz on CPU-NB handles all fine.

As i've never seen the point of crossfire when a card comes out shortly afterwards that can easily take on a crossfired setup - having an onboard graphics is handy for when I'm in the transition period of upgrading my card - - plus not having the patience to wait for the 890FX boards The 890GX worked out perfectly for me timing wise (for my new build)

I was more interested in having Thuban support than anything else hence the decision to plump for 890GX.
