Upcoming Firefox 57 ("Quantum") is twice as fast as Firefox 52

Quicky, is there a way to get the downloads to show like they do on Chrome rather than disappear into the manager?

Currently got 3 tabs open and in Task Manager using 703MB RAM, it also shows 7 items under Firefox. Are they my tabs and addons and is the RAM usage normal? Never really checked RAM usage before so no idea!

You mean this?

I had a look for the little download manager box that used to be in FF but with no luck.
I had this too - the download button "disappeared". But if you look under customise it comes back. So I removed it and added it back again and saw the option "auto-hide" with a an unticked tick box. Since then, it's always stayed there.

Something else I discovered in customise, are the density options. I now have small buttons back again, without the need for add-ons - happy days.

Yeah, on default it hides itself for some odd reason but you can change it to not hide. Mentioned it in post #83 but I guess it got buried somewhere :p.

I found a way!

It's a bit of a hash, but it works at least. There are two stages.

1: In about:config, change the value of browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.enabled to false, and keep that tab open.
2: Open a new tab, then open another. The 2nd tab should now show the old style of "top sites", you can organise your top sites (or speed dials as they used to be know) how you please.

Once done, change the value back to true, then open another new tab or two. You can then go in to edit top sites and name your organised sites properly.

Granted if you've used the tweak mentioned earlier to add more tiles, you won't be able to organise those beyond the default 15 of the old tile style, so the remainder will be dynamic ones that change depending on how often you view those sites. The initial 15 will be pinned so will never changed (assuming you always had them pinned so they stay put).

can anyone help me.

when i click on the + sign for a new tab i want it to just open my homepage again (not show me my top sites or previous sites ive visited)

can anyone help?

Has anyone had any issue with Firefox v57 and using Malwarebytes....?
Previously I have used Chrome and never had an issue but with a clean install of FF I get something like this often.....

rpoTkwI.jpg

this happens if I visit Amazon UK, or other sites. I have placed an exception for Amazon and even one for Firefox itself.

I have disabled the very few extensions that I have in use and still I will get that.

Scanning my system with Malwarebytes and Defender and it shows to be clean, using Chrome and it isn't an issue.

Sometimes the prefix to symcd.com can be a different two letter one but it always contains the rest of the noted site just in FF.

Turning off website protection and the (non)issue goes away. I have read some posts from a year or so back about this occurring with MB and FF, but was later resolved when MB updated. No updates as yet for MB to change the (non)issue.

First issue I've ran into today with 4od of all things, had to enable flash (sigh) but even with adblocker turned off it never starts to play, switched to chrome and all fine.

I needed a 32bit flash, on an albeit older 64bit ff version, to get 4od, or was it itv player;
still need silverlight too for nowtv/skygo,

Stand by principles, don't just cave in and install Flash.

None of the big streaming services like iPlayer, Prime Video or Netflix/YouTube etc need flash, they've long moved on to the internet of 2017. Make the issue known to Channel 4's social networks as well as the other networks who still insist on forcing people to install Flash or Silverlight (!!!) in order to watch content.

Flash is obsolete, just like JAVA installs in 2017 for the modern web.

Ha - Silverlight! Did anyone ever use that at all? I never did on any of my home machines, and when I used to re-image PCs at work, Silverlight was never part of the image. Flash, Acrobat, .Net etc always was though. Silverlight was perma-obsolete imo.

Anyone noticed the font on these forums is slightly different than in Chrome despite the font settings being identical between both browsers?
