Hi. I'm about to purchase a 24" 1900x1200 PC monitor to replace both my current monitor and desktop TV. It has HDMI imput, which I'll be using with the PS3. The Playstation can output sound over AV (auxiliary), however my PC outputs via optical and I don't want to buy two sets of speakers. So, my question is: can one buy 2.1 speakers that have both optical and auxiliary in? Or is there, perhaps, another way of getting around this issue using adapters etc.

Thanks for any help.

Regards,
Pete.

I'm looking at these Logitech speakers. They have an "auxiliary input" on the volume remote thingy; I'm guessing this means I could use a phono-phono cable from the PC to the remote, and composite from the PS3 to get sound from both sources at the same time?

Most 2.1 speakers don't have a digital input..
If you use the analogue output from your PC then you can get any speakers and connect both at once using a splitter/y-adaptor.

I don't think you understand the terms you're using.
Composite is a type of video signal.
RCA/phono is a type of conenctor.

The PS3 has analogue stereo output (2xRCA). Your PC has an analogue stereo output (3.5mm). The speakers will have either a 3.5mm or 2xRCA analogue input.
With the correct cables or adaptors you can connect them simultaneously.

Thanks for the clarification. The Logitech speakers I linked above have an input on the wired remote; is that 3.5mm? The problem I'm having is not being able to find sufficient info on any speaker set as to inputs. I'm tempted to just buy them, look at them out of the box and go from there - buying adapters if need be.
