Upcoming X38 Motherboards

MSI HydroGen X38

Interesting set-up to say the least.

what a design - best solution i've seen on a stock board ever, they look like MIPS blocks too?

shame it looks to be a DDR3 only board though, too much money for not enough benefit over P35/DDR2.

Tis DDR2 and DDR3.

Guessing two slots for DDR2 and fours slots for DDR3.

Is it both DDR 2 and 3...?

This is also unlikely to be a final version of the board, as MSI decided against having DDR2 on its X38 boards due to the performance issues it caused.

I didnt actually read the article, by just looking at that board it is DDR2 and DDR3.

But if it causes issues then they will probabilly just have a DDR3 version.

I'm told they have scrapped the DDR2 slots as it was giving them huge stability problems.

Got my Maximus Formula all setup and running Vista x64 last night, found a leak on my WC the other day so I re tubed the whole thing and added the mobo to the loop so now the chipset will be happy as well :D.

Anyone know anything more about the EIST, S3 warm reset bug in the X38?

Intel plans to have an updated version of the DX38BT motherboard using the X48 chipset during the first quarter of 2008. The X48 is essentially a cherry-picked X38 chipset with better overclocking ability and support for 1600 FSB. More importantly, the X48 will fix the EIST bug present in the X38 chipset that requires manufacturers to rework their X38 motherboards.

Something here about reduced PCIe bandwidth after restarts.

Doesn't sound like much, does this mean wait for 1.1rev boards?

So we've left cheap and cheerful behind then? The whole DS3/overclocked E6400/PC6400 is all you need etc. etc?

I'll change my mind again no doubt.:p

But with Quads costing 50 more than what I paid for my 6400 I would regard the Q6600 as cheap and cheerful.

The 8800 GTS I sold for getting a GT .I think these are coming in cheaper than current GTS but with a faster spec so money saved there.

The DS3 cost 75 and I still have it as a backup mobo.

X38 cost me £148 30 quid more than what I paid for the P35 pro.

The limitation of the 965 chipset and clocking Quads forced me to go P35.
