Upcoming X38 Motherboards

personally i like the look of the intel referance bored my self, understated and subtle compared to the rest, that would be my choice if it supported good OC features.

and if i remember correctly is that the dfi mobo that has that hideous meccano heatpipe you build your self and sits infront of the exhaust of the psu extruding from the gaping hole were the back I/O connectors are?

the DFI board is the one im waiting for

that + the intel board have the best and cleanest layout IMO

i also hate all of the stupidly tall and over extravagant NB coolers

will coolers like the ultra 120 extreme fit the MSI / Foxconn board / Abit board

Whats the approx release date for these bnoards since I am building my ew system in a month or so? Rough time scale? Next week? Next year? Is it worth waiting for? I bet it'll be expensive...

Gigabyte board is out in 2 days, all others following closely after probably up until the end of the month.

I think I will wait for the DFI board....stick with what you know type thing;)

I am in no particular hurry so I guess I will let the dust settle a little.

just noticed the BIOS battery placement... under the primary graphics card. Nice one ASUS
Such a pain when you want to reset the BIOS and you have to take the GPU out to take the BIOS battery out. ;)
Its not a problem? the last time I had to take a battery out a motherboard to clear cmos was over 3 years ago.

My current ASUS P5B-D has never even needed me to clear CMOS using the jumper, let alone removing the battery.

A design flaw that is more obvious to me is the way the PCI-E slot is too close to the memory slots, meaning anytime u wanna swap out memory u have to remove the graphics card first?

Due to Gigabyte's Crazy Cool design on the back of the motherboard it means you can't fit CPU heatsink retention brackets to the rear of the socket. This means some coolers like those from Zalman, Asus, Noctua and Zerotherm among others won't fit.

Quote taken from the Bit-Tech review.

The odd thing is that in the AnandTech review they used a Tuniq Tower 120 which I believe uses a retention bracket. So I don’t know who to believe.

I was under the impression that they were one of the larger manufacturers out there, supplying other more recognised brands, but only recently marketing their own products.....

They are, aka Hon Hai. One of the largest electronics manufactures worldwide. They make loads of the boards for the big name brands, motherboards, graphics cards, consoles et al.
