Well, I decided to update my 360 and go for the bru-ray-equipped-PS3 :D

Thanks to a hefty trade-in at *** I paid a steady £7, and since that I haven't looked back. Blu-ray looks amazing!! Just wanted to share some pics!!!

TV sat on a glossy black and silver stand:
Sony Bravia KDL40W2000
Resolution: 1920 x 1080 via HDMI
Sound output from TV to Hi-Fi for that extra ompfh

Stereo sat on an Apollo Hi Fi rack w/ Spikes:
Audiolab 8000CD
Audiolab 8000Q Pre Amp
Audiolab 8000P1
Audiolab 8000P2
Audiovector Mi3 Floorstanding Tri-way Speakers w/ Spikes

Both amps being stereo, so bi-amping gives me 1 amp per high/low/channel

TV, Sky, PS3 and iPod running through Audiolab 8000Q :)

Sadly.. no Sky HD :(

To be honest I can't part with the cash for the minimal HD channels just yet. Shame because I think it would blend in perfect (than my BRIGHT white Sky+ box!)

As for the wiring.. thanks! A keen eye will notice the merticulous tidying on the surge protector!

Lovely looking setup - very fresh. Get the Sky HD though - the quality of the movies on it are on a par with the blueray and HD-DVD disks ive played so far - and you get about 40-50 different movies a month, for the extra tenner and half price skyHD at the mo, its well worth it.

Lovely setup mate!

What are the speakers?

Are those part of the new Audiolab range?

I'm seriously considering buying a ps3 next month; what are you thoughts on it so far?

Appreciate your eye for style and for showing these pics.
Tidy system but theirs definately room their for a 360 still and a HTPC me thinks.

Would jump at a PS3 myself if their was a better selection of movies or even games. Too early yet for me to warrant the purchase.

Oh, where did you get your rug? I am looking for pretty much exactly that for my room I am decorating in a couple of weeks :)

Awesome setup mate, though you really need Sky HD!

How do you find the 8000Q to what you had before (I'm assuming you started out with something smaller!), is it as clinical as people say?

If you are using analogue audio outputs into the Q may I suggest spending a bit of cash on a nice DAC? Would make a big difference to the sound quality from the PS3 and Sky boxes! (Well, you'd need SkyHD first, but you should get that too :D)

Very very nice!

Is your TV not a little too left of centre? I'm a big fan of using stereo for av, but do you not have to keep adjusting the balance each time you want to watch tv?

Cheers for the comments so far guys!

Let me elaborate on a few things;

1) The couch is dead centre in relation to the stereo field (left arm being in line with the TV for optimal Ps3 action ;))

2) Got the rug from that big catalogue company

3) I have used Merlin Chopin interconnects, which come with their own wrap so they look sleeved (cheating), then I just tried bunching them together to make them seem tidier. For the iPod, I am running a Chord iChord which is white so it's pretty good at blending in to the wall colour behind!

4) Speakers are Audiovector Mi3 (covers removed) had them at a knockdown price when I had them because they were ex-demo. I've checked the drivers and they were all in tip-top shape so I was landed!. Tri way speakers, but currently (as i'm bi-amping) I have linked the lower and middle cones to the same output. I suppose if I didn't have stereo amp I could have gotten 3 mono channel amps and had 1 channel per cone but it's too much moolah + I can't be bothered to sell! lol

(Oh and I've used white sticky-cable-tie bases and white cable ties to run the speaker cable (QED Silver Anniversary XT) along the top of the skirting)

5) These new Audiolabs are amazing. I love the clarity and lack of sound colouration that they offer. I had a Rotel CD player before which was good, but I just found the 8000CD to offer a clearer sound. Plus, when I bought the system I wanted something that had clean lines as well as good performance, and this caught my eye!

6) As for the PS3. Yes, the Blu Ray is phenomenal! I was truly blown away by the depth of field and the crisp pictures over the standard definition DVD stuff I was used to. I will probably invest in an external DAC for improved sound, but I'm saving for a holiday so perhaps at a later date. I usually get my Blu Ray movies (have Click, Ultraviolet, Taladega Nights) online. Pick them up from various sites for around £10-20 and they have a larger selection than the high street stores :)

Games on the PS3 are great. Of the games I have (Motorstorm, Resistance: Fall of Man, NBA Streetcourt) they all play at 720P which is fine, but it's a slight shame as I have a 1080p screen to play them on! They all play fine, love each game to be honest and I only really bought it for the blu ray!

A good stereo field is miles better than a Surround setup.

Nice Setup! Big thumbs up!

Josh

Not if he adds quality surround gear to his existing setup. You don't get the immersion from stereo in movies, nor the house shaking bass.

Main reason I went stereo instead of surround is that when I built the house (converted barn) I forgot to lay my speaker cabling before I went off on holidays for two weeks (what an idiot considering it's what I do for a living!) so when I returned and the plasterers had finished it was too late (dot and dab, so no room to fish cables in (like if it had been dry lining)).

It is possible, but it would require one of the following methods a) running speaker flex around the room , perhaps along the skirting b) digging up the floor and/or chasing them around that way and to be honest the benefits don't really outweigh the hassle :(

Back to the SkyHD.. I have the max package from sky at the moment (all the channels) + another box on multiroom (+ £10);

How much would it be to update me to the HD package? Bearing in mind I have 1 old regular sky box, and an existing Sky+ box? Would it be a case of updating the Sky+ box -> a HD one for £££ and using the Sky+ box in place of the regular?

For music maybe, not for games and movies, your missing out on loads of the immersive effects. Plus it gives you a tactical advantage in games as you can tell exactly where the sound is coming from.
