my gaming PC is currently
A64 X2 4400 (overclocked to 2.31), Asus A8N-Sli premium MB, 2 x Asus 7800GTX Graphics card - SLI'ed; Enermax Noisetaker 600W PSU, 2GB OCZ Plat Ed 2 Memory all in a Antec P180 Case. My CPU is cooled by various 120mm case fans and a EVO 120 CPU heatsink and fan.

I have a new monitor - Dell 2407

Is it worth me upgrading my graphics cards to a SINGLE 8800GTX ? - has I have noticed in the native resolution 1920x1200 of the monitor, games such as Stalker are very sluggish... or is it my CPU that is the bottleneck.

Or should i build a new PC ?

Your advice and help is very much appreciated

I went from sli'd 7800gt's on a 939 rig to my current rig with a 8800gts 320mb and even that was a huge increase in performance. At your res a 8800gtx should be ok but better to wait for others who also have that card and res to post.

8800GTX is fine at 1920*1200 and it's a nice improvement over 7800GTX SLI but with new cards/games about to be released it probably wont last or maybe it will, we don't really know yet. :p

Aye exactly. This DX10.1 thing could make a purchase of a 8800GTX a bad choice for the future if they start implementing DX10.1 into games.

How soon?. Nobody knows for sure (Well that can talk about it and I don't mean me).

If it was me then I'd hang onto my 7800GTX in SLi for now. The 8800GTX is going on 10 months now and the new card (9800GTX speculation name) with support for DX10.1 would be the better buy imho. You have a killer combo still but I think you should overclock that CPU more if you can as I'm sure that will be bottlenecking the performance from your set up.

If you can't push it faster due to a bad stepping then keep your eye out for a known overclockable X2 CPU. Second hand they will be cheap as a X2 3800 is only £40 from OCUK ;).
