Hello all,

I got a PC pre-built a long time ago (6+ years) and it's starting to show its age. It is struggling to run Bannerlord and Mordhau on low settings so I am looking to upgrade for gaming for the next 3 years and would like some help, please. My upgrade budget I am planning on is £500/600 but I can spend a bit more.

My current specs are:

AMD R9 200 series (270x) Sapphire 2gb

AMD FX6100 6 core processor

HT3.0 DDR3 / GA-970A-DS3 motherboard

8gb RAM (x2 Spectech 4gb DDR3)

1TB Seagate HDD SATA, AF

750 watt ******** ATX power station.

Windows 7 OS (for now, will upgrade to 10 with new parts)

I was planning on just upgrading CPU/GPU but I understand I will need a new motherboard due to the older connections and that might mean replacing more things.

I was thinking of getting the parts below, but is it worth spending a bit more for a better GPU? A friend suggested an Nvidia RTX 2060.

AMD Ryzen 3600 CPU /

ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F Motherboard (£247.99 bundled with the CPU)

AMD Radeon RX 590 REV2 8gb GDDR5 (~£190)

SSD - open to recommendations, have looked at some but am not sure what is best.

I have not properly looked for a new power pack or replacing the HDD yet.

Any other suggestions for keeping my pc running better would be appreciated.

What's the absolute maximum you can afford to spend? Do you need a new mouse, keyboard or monitor?

Is it purely a gaming machine or do you stream, photo edit or anything else?

Welcome to the forums by the way!

AMD Ryzen 3600 CPU

Honestly with that budget, I'd ignore the Ryzen 5 3600 and go with a lower part, like a 1600 AF, and get the RTX 2060 or similar. If you get a decent B450 board you'll be able to drop in a 6/8/12/16 core Zen3 part in the future.

EDIT: NO case, or PSU and that is already £620 nearly.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (14nm) 3.2 GHz 6-Core Processor
Motherboard: MSI B450M MORTAR MAX Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Storage: Western Digital Blue 500 GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive
Video Card: EVGA GeForce RTX 2060 6 GB SC ULTRA GAMING Video Card

Total: £617.99

I would steer clear of the asus rog strix and instead go for an msi tomahawk max, ryzen 5 3600 16gb ddr4 3200-3600 and a 5700/5700xt you might be able to all this for around £650 if you shop around.

Hi!

Thanks for the quick replies!

I don't stream, use it for occasional basic work (word, excel, email). It will largely be for gaming.

I can check my monitor, probably as old but I think it runs fine - mouse and key board are both standard stuff and I have no complaints.

Budget I could push up another £150 or so.

I'll look at the performance differences, would I still be fine most current games on mid or so?
