I got a mint condition alienware M17X R4 a while back for £500...
Its an I7 with 12gb ram and a GTX660M... 1080p etc.. lovely laptop but i need more graphical power. Now you can upgrade them with higher power cards but they are expensive and you have to flash the BIOS to an unlocked version ( which can be dicy apparrently ) and even then if you want the 970 or 980 there can be issues.
I have a 500GB mSSD i fitted myself as the boot drive but dell in their infinate wisdom made the msata interface only SATA2 speeds.... 250mb/s but still very snappy. I have 2x 700gb mechanicals in raid for games.
Has anyone here attempted a GPU upgrade on this model? The senisble part of me says to flog it ( i could get £500 for it as i work at a shop that buys and sells electricals ) and get something more up to date.
A new laptop would have M.2 ssd slots and be of course a new generation I7. My budget would be about 1500quid, so probably a 970 rather than a 980.
Any opinons or thoughts would be appreciated.
