Hello,

I am in need of an upgrade :D

Budget of £750 inc. delivery.
This must include a monitor (22" TFT - most likely the Samsung Pebble) and so in reality there is only £500 for CPU, RAM, MB, Graphics Card & PSU

I'm not really bothered about Overclocking and don't really care about 'upgradeability'.

Any Ideas?... Thanks

Some nice suggestions. Thanks.

Upgarding from an old P4 2.53Ghz, 1GB Ram which is about 5 years old now.

Some light gaming would be nice although I have my xbox 360 & PS3 for that.

That should be a sweet system. Why don't you give it ago with a spec yourself @ OP? Then ask for suggestions on how to improve it if anything?

I have purchased my nice new monitor and just need the rest of the upgrades :)

Managed to increase the budget too... So now I have £775 inc Delivery for CPU/MB/GFX/RAM/PSU.

I would like to be able to run UT3 & Crysis but I don't really care about maximum settings.

I assume that Intel have the better CPUs at the moment. 4GB of RAM would be needed?

Might aswell get a whole new rig for that :p Maybe something like this....

You really should be overclocking that cpu though... just read the forums and you'll pick it up. :)
If not just the CPU(retail version though), MB, GFX and Psu + 4gb of ram from that spec would be loverlyyy.

Thanks for the help. I should have mentioned that I don't need a case or optical/hard drives. So you think the Quad Core is the best way to go?

As for Graphics.. 8800 or HD3870?

is the case you have suitable (size wise) to house a 8800 card ?

I think it is... I haven't seen the size of an 8800 though.

The case is some old Chieftech (I think) with 5 front bays (not inc the floppy drive bay)

Yup, and 4GB of ram is so cheap now (£70???) there is no reason not to get it :)

*edit* If your cheiftec is anything like the 2 I had (the Scorpio and the BX-01 series), then the card will be in the way of the HDD cables infront of the intake fan which is inbuilt in to the hard drive caddie, you would then need to move it up in to the floppy bay area, not a real issue unless your a fanatic about keeping HDD temps low.
