Upgrade from 8800 GTX for TF2/L4D2/Deus Ex 3

frankly i got acceptable (25-40) framerates @ 1600x900 2xaa in TF2 with the IGP of a 790GX. Id imagine L4D would be similar. Cant really comment on deux ex though.

CPU is being upgraded regardless, gfx card however is because I'd prefer something cooler, less power hungry, and more futureproof. But you're right, if the CPU gives a nice little boost, it may make the gfx upgrade seem less important for getting better fps, however heat is still an issue with the 8800 GTX.
I just gonna quote myself (rather than copy and paste) from another topic:
Yea definitely overclock the Q6600. I was using a crappy nforce 650i board and only overclocked my Q6600 to 3.0GHz. I've upgraded my motherboard to Asus P5Q Deluxe couple of days ago and overclocked the Q6600 to 3.6GHz, and when I play Left4Dead 2, the overall experience feel a lot smoother than before when I was on 3.0GHz, despite I'm still using the same 9800GTX+.

I think some games just simply love the extra power from the CPUs.
Better CPU and higher clock speed would definitely help. The source games do seem to love the extra CPU power, and I game at 1680x1050 also.

Q6600 and a 460 1GB I would have said a 135 quid 6850 but them have gone up in price
