Well i am due for a upgrade early in the new year but i really cant decide what to get.

I currently have a nokia N82 that has sufficed for the long contract but not had any problems whatsoever. I really like the interfaces of nokia phones and as most of my phones have been nokia i am really used to them. I have tried others like samsungs, clamshells and HTC but could never really get on with them. But the N97 Mini looks like a good compromise between the N86 and a HTC Phone.

But.... My friend is always banging on about his iphone 3GS. I do like the look of the phone and the feel is great too. Features and apps are fantastic. But the downside is the initial layout and an extra £10 a month than i usually pay for my contract and its a 24 month contract that i am not really bothered about.

I wouldnt actually mind the N86 as this would save me money but a) Orange have stopped doing it and b) i fancy a bit of fun.

Soooo.. What do you think? Iphone?

I've had a similar decision myself - I've been looking at the HTC Magic, Motorola Droid, Nokia N97 Mini, Nokia N900, iPhone 3GS, Blackberry Storm 2 and the Samsung H1

After much deliberation I ended up going for the iPhone 3GS - the app store and interface really sealed the deal for me

I found the N97 Mini to be rather clunky, slow and unintuitive but I've never owned a Symbian phone (currently got a Palm Centro and before then a Samsung F700) so it could just be that I'm not familiar with the OS!

@ajgoodfellow

I made the move from having SE phones for ages to Nokia and Symbian. I found it clunky and unattractive at first, but once you learn the symbian operating system it can be a joy to use. I've found it very reliable and the level of customisation and additions that can be made are great. There's a massive library of well-produced, useful apps, many free that have been around for a while with good support for almost all symbian phones.

I'd agree that the interface needs a refresh though. There have already been some leaked images of the next possible revamp of symbian from nokia. Looks a lot prettier, as it should be to keep up with these new apples and robots.

@Skyline

As I've said above, with the N97 there'll still be a massive database of USEFUL apps that I'm sure you're used to with your current Nokia. I don't think the 3GS is better enough to justify how much more it costs, and the fact you'll be stuck in a contract for that long. At least with a 12 or 18 month one you can move onto another handset sooner too.

HTC Hero or HD2.

but the milestone is better than the hero in every way - Hardware Qwerty keyboard, Faster CPU and graphics, higher resolution screen, much higher maximum upload/download speed, and it still manages to be thinner.

i don't think i could ever own another motorola. Same goes for samsung. Never had a good phone from them!

To be honest after playing with my sisters iphone i think i am gonna follow the sheep. I have checked and i can get the price of the phone back by recycling or selling my N82 so if i get it on the 18 month contract its not too bad..
