Howdy all,
Ok i've got a xfx 5850 (refrence) playing on 24"HD got no real problems with it plays all games fine, but got that bug again:D

sys [email protected] (water, custom loop d55,swiftek block, RX 240 rad ect)

?? can't decide if to upgrade GPU or buy water block for 5850 and clock further.(flash bios and clock higher)
Block and fitting would cost around £70

GPU @ CCC limit 775/1125 but fan noise bugs me @50%

i have money for 570gtx SC (been thrifty ;))not sure if dual rad would be enough for cpu and 570 on 1 loop (got a thing about noise)

BUT... is 570gtx (evga around £270) really worth it or should wait for 28nm,
also thought about 560ti 2GB but is this a sidegrade not a upgrade ???

did also think about crossfire, but been there before, fine for games that support but crap for those that don't.

any suggestions or advice would be great
thx:confused:

TBH there is not much point clocking to 5850 to silly high level as the performance gains are quite minimal. I went through this again a few days ago trying my 5850 at stock and then at 950/1200 (this is on air with a prolimatech mk-13) and the difference in term of minimum fps and averages where not enough to justify the extra power. And to be honest the only games i own out of around 150 that require a bit more ooomph are crysis and metro.

if you like i could throw together a table at stock vs 950/1200 so you can see what sort of gains you will get.

While high-end overclock would require higher voltage, use much more power and make the card runs hotter, I think it would still be whilewhile to overclock the 5850 to say 850MHz, as that should really require much increase in voltage.

I am not sure how this can be as from all the overclocks i have seen of 5850's 900-950 brings the performance level to around that of the 5870 which is surely worth it.

unfortunately all the overclocking in the world won't remove that upgrade bug.
one option would be a £200 GTX480 and a water block, potentially a very quiet solution depending if your psu is up to it, but if you were thinking of a 570 I'm sure it will be.

well no because the 5850 has 1440 stream proccessors and the 5870 has 1600 to catch up to the 5870 you need to be looking above 1Ghz on the core and 1250 on the memory. There has been a lot of threads on this i'll see if i can dig one out

thanks for replies all ,looking @ that Gigabyte GeForce GTX 480 SUPER OC

nice price ,anybody know is this is a refrence board.
and damm neary 1ft long, would have to move my res for it to fit and i have a acts840(big case)
