Im considering a new build butwonder if i cant get more out of my old horse still?
i5 2500K @ 4.2ghz, GTX970.
Most games playing very well still @ 2560x1440 144hz, i may not get 144fps all the time but dropping settings here and there gives me a very playable 70-144fps on most games, BF1 and ofcourse BFV being the biggest culprits gobbling up my CPU with BFV not what i would call playable.
While ive put the cash by for a nice new rig im wondering what cpu if any would be an upgrade to get more time out of this rig?
I believe an i7 3770k will fit my asus P8P67 rev 3.0 motherboard?
Would it be a decent upgrade or a waste of money?

i7s are starting to be quoted in games more for recommended.
either combo of two things-
  • 1080p is more PCU Bound
  • game likes threads such as BF1/V etc
most cost effective upgrade that would see max FPS or High/Ultra is dropping in GTX 1070/70Ti or 1080

If you are a keen BF player then def drop a second hand i7 and overclock . might be able to pick one up cheap come October and might starve off upping GPU as well. See how it gets on .

8 core intels drop week 40 so might be worth holding out till then, BF1/V will feature on benchmarks and places like OC3D do review on older Maxwell cards at different res
