Hi guys, hoping you all will be able to help me :).

I bought a new Rig back in Feb 2014 from Overclockers, it was the below Build:

"Liberator X6" AMD FX-6 6300 @ 4.1GHz Turbo Nvidia GeForce

Six Core Gaming PC

1 £605.80 £605.80

GX-206-MS MSI GeForce GTX 760 OC Gaming Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
HD-257-SE Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM
(ST1000DM003) HDD
MY-033-TG TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11
1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38GM1600HC11DC01)
CP-338-AM AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket
AM3+) Processor - Retail
MB-457-GI Gigabyte 970A-DS3P AMD 970A (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard
CA-002-GE OcUK Value AT/ATX "Kettle Plug" 2 Meter Mains Cable
CA-145-BX BitFenix Shadow Tower Case - Midnight Black
CD-003-OK OcUK 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM
CA-017-SF SuperFlower Amazon 550W "80 Plus Bronze" Power Supply
HS-000-RT Raijintek EreBoss High Performance CPU Cooler

Since I bought the PC I've also bought an SSD (250GB) and a Corsair CX430 PSU.

I'm looking into my options really and I am wondering what's best, replace the whole rig with a deal from OCUK or buy specific parts, although I'm wondering if the Motherboard/CPU combo I've got is going to last... (I doubt it)?? Also.. is now the time to buy?? My current PC does run games at medium/high settings but wondering if now is a good time to buy or should I hold off for the moment.

I'm also looking into a new Monitor for the new setup.. Open to suggestions for Size but initially I've been looking at a 27" Monitor.

The is my current Monitor:

This is the one I've started looking into:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/sams...creen-lcd-monitor-silver-white-mo-22o-sa.html

For the whole build I would like to keep around £1000 mark but could stretch if required!

Cheers guys.

Given the latest CPU and motherboard vulnerabilities you might want to wait to see if there are refreshes in the next few months. What you could do is buy your GPU and monitor now and the motherboard, CPU, and RAM later.

I would not buy that monitor: 1080p is too low a resolution for 27" as you will see pixellation. Look at 1440p or 3440x1400 instead. Or 24" high refresh.

wait till ryzen Zen+ comes out or if you want to grab a good deal and before ram prices go up

Ryzen 1600 + 8GB + B350 board

should see 5-15 fps gains on current GPU playing at 1080p which puts strain on the CPU more then GPU.

whacking in a GPU will get you the most gains! but it wouldn't be unlocking its full potential

video with your CPU vs a 4 Core 4 Thread Ryzen 1200 with GTX 1060 which would be a solid choice of GPU upgrade from your current

can see the lessor budget entry ryzen beats it

or further thinking, grab a GPU now if a cracking sale comes on and see how Zen+ effects pricing, might find a killer deal on first Gen Ryzen!

Thanks for the feedback guys, will take another look into Monitor options. So you think I would need a motherboard upgrade and a whole new rig, rather than just the CPU/GFX upgrades?

Probably as the video above demonstrates. However, the correct advice was get the GPU now and wait for a month or two to see how the vulnerability thing plays out as this may change performance figures and the imminent release of Ryzen+ may give you more options on either a lower priced Ryzen V1 or an upgraded Ryzen+. Also, more choice available on the Intel side with regards to MB selection and supply of CPU's.

Monitor choice will determine what GPU you'll need. currently your 60hz 1080p monitor is doing fine with your current GPU .

If you go for a 1080p 144hz screen then gtx 1060 6GB or more expensive GTX 1070 would suit well - but your CPU will still hold you back

going 1440p 60hz, your CPU will hold you less back but GTX 1070/1070Ti would be a good shout and your current CPU will last a bit longer

I wouldn't buy it. The higher refresh rate - 75 Hz - version is only £20 more. But neither have true 8 bit colour which may diminish your gaming pleasure and will certainly affect any artwork you do. Your CPU is still very creditable but a FX 9370 should cost you around £150. Get yourself one of those and spend the rest on a GTX 1070 and the best monitor you can afford. Look at Dell's 27" 144 Hz 1440p monitor or one of the 3440x1400 monitors (you may have to sacrifice GSync for the latter). Never stint on the monitor.
