Upgrade to 680 SLI specifically for BF3 - worth it?

You say to play BF3 but other up coming titles are at least as demanding.
For example Nexuiz.

The beta is more demanding then BF3 is.
I can play BF3 on ultra above 60fps (apart from the odd v-ram stutter so I have had to drop settings a little).

I cant play Nexuiz beta maxed out above 45fps.

is Nexuiz worth buying, it looks pretty naff to me

this is all a bit scary, if you're saying 50 to 60fps this seems quite low.

my old 8800 gtx is running 30 to 45 FPS and this i really notice, it's way too slow for me, 50 to 60FPS for a GTX 680 aint much faster is it... especially on 1080p

my old card only looks good over 80 fps, but below this it looks choppy, after all this is why i'm upgrading! the image just doesn't pan smoothly from left to right below about 60FPS, there is no way that i'm buying a card that's as low as this.... i keep reading this on all the threads and it gets to me...

i'm after 80 fps period ! for Crysis 2 on 1080p i wont settle for less.... so what is the right card please, because the 680 doesn't look man enough from what you're saying above, i've had 4 years of 60FPS or less.... no more

Minimum 50-60, MINIMUM, this is talking about sudden spikes in maybe, I don't know, stacks of c4 and a plane crashing into your nose, for the most part average is going to be higher, and max more so obviously.

lollostme

Dave has SLI 470's, not a 680. On saying that though, I have seen BF3 on 64player maps drop as low as 52fps for a couple of seconds...Maybe I don't see it but regardless of anything happening, the game feels so smooth.

Maybe the 980 will cope :p

hi Gregster

Maybe i've missed that this is the lowest FPS, but the average is far higher.

it would be interesting to know what it is for Borderlands/ bioshock/ far cry 2

Here's the simple facts:
1. BF3 is (I think we all agree) the most graphically demanding game out in the wild
2. At any res below 1920x1200 a SINGLE GTX680 or HD7970 is more than adequate for maintained solid FPS.
3. One GTX680 (speaking from personal experiance, as are a few others here) will give you a MINIMUM of ~50 FPS (could be higher depending on your processor), an AVERAGE of 80-90 FPS and a MAX of over 100 FPS in BF3

My spec, for reference and comparison is:
i5-750 @ 4GHz
8GB DDR3 1600 RAM
GTX680

Bioshock was huge fps on a 560ti bud so will be higher galore on a 680. The other 2 I never played so can't comment. Deffo Bf3 'is' the benchmark now. I did show my lowest fps as 52 and this is good enough for my 20/20 vision.

@ OptimaLnrg

Far from it lol...Search around for best interest rates, that's all I can say...

From your sig:
|Phantom 3gb 580 (please take it away -_-) @ stock|

LOL, is that a sign for me to get the 680 instead

No need tbf I make sure not to save too much money any more lol.

Well it's not that the 580 isn't good enough. Mixture of high and ultra gets me the 80-90 average people are saying the 680 will get at full ultra. The problem with the 580 phantom is that the cooler is ****. I bought it from another etailer in jan and didn't have time to properly test before dsr period was up due to uni, so I span the fans up to 100% and was happy with that because it's ok, obviously loud, bt I figured during gaming I would be fine. Wrong. The card at stock gets hot enough in gaming to require 70-80% fan speed and at that speed there is a really bad resonating sound which I can hear over the game sounds in my headphones LOL.

theres not that many, look at the last game crysis from then till bf3,i remember metro2033 was a card killer when it came out but now doesnt seem so,aint one 680 enough? the way the tech is changing so quick there will always be better faster cards coming out

i just think its overkill and at current prices just not worth it atm
