Hi,

I have a mid 2009 unibody aluminium MBP and wanted to upgrade the HDD and memory.

I was thinking about getting the 500GB Momentus XT hybrid for the HDD, would this work okay in my MBP and be worth the upgrade over something like say a WD Scorpio Blue?

Also not sure where to start with the RAM, at the moment I have 2GB - I presume the sensible upgrade would be to 4GB? Would I need to buy a single 2GB bit of RAM? Any recommendations?

My specs;

13-inch, Mid 2009
Processor 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory 2 GB 1067 MHz DDR3

Many thanks

4GB is £19.19 and 8GB is £32.39 direct from Crucial. Just find your model in their advisor tool to find the right stuff.

Your system supports SATA2, so an SSD would be a good upgrade. The 256GB Samsung 830 is on this week only, but there are plenty of cheaper drives that would do well enough.

I have a similar Macbook Pro, upgraded to 4Gb RAM and a 256Gb Samsung 830. It flies with the SSD. Boots in under 10 seconds to the desktop and applications launch in under 1 bounce. Best thing I ever bought.

Don't bother with the hybrid drive unless you're really desperate for the space, just get a decent (128-256GB) SSD. Your system will have a completely new lease of life.

sorry to hijack your thread miracleboy but am in the same boat as you regarding my mid 2009 MBP i have the Ram maxed at 8Gb but am wanting to upgrade the Hard drive in it as am wanting to keep the MBP for a while yet am thinking a SSD is the way to go. 128Gb or lower just isnt enough for me so its either a 256Gb Crucial M4 or a Samsung 830

My old 09 mbp loved a 256gb SSD, prices now make it essential (like 8 gig of ram for £32) as I paid lots for my 256gb c300...

The M4 and 830 can both be had for very reasonable prices which make them perfect choices (regardless of bus speed limitations)
