Wanted to say thanks @Bazippy - I followed your advice and just managed to snag a 3070. It's the PNY GeForce RTX™ 3070 8GB UPRISING Dual Fan Graphics Card - hopefully a good card? Haha
Glad it worked for you and so quickly, im quite surprised. Stock must be getting much better or youve got some really quick ninja click skills!
Even a 3060ti is a decent upgrade from the 980ti so you should be very happy, im so excited for my 3080 tomorrow!

Thanks! Was quite lucky I guess - although I just cancelled that order and went for the MSI GeForce RTX 3070 SUPRIM X 8GB instead! :)

EDIT: Looks like I made a massive mistake, no pun intended, as the MSI seems to be 33.5cm long compared to the 28cm

I cancelled it :(

Back to the drawing board for me, hopefully I will get another chance to get one. Should not have cancelled the PNY card - that one would have fit. Pretty annoyed with myself .

Hi all,

Despite living under a rock for a while now, I realise that there is a huge shortage of the new RTX 3060/3070/3080 cards. One of them would have been my go to choice but since there is next to no chance of me getting one any time soon without paying a scalper a huge markup, I was wondering if the collective hivemind here could suggest alternatives, that are more readily available?

I play at 1440p on an Alienware AW3420DW so I think potentially a 2080 or 2080 Super would do?
Wait for a 3080, you'll get a very decent uplift for a sensible price if you get the FE. Impatience leading to a more modest upgrade isn't a good idea if you're spending hundreds of pounds or dollars.

Oh well seems you've bought a card, and now returned it, there's a reason the 3080 is in huge demand vs the 3070.

Think most 3080s will probably be too big for my case/board (NZXT H440)... my current card (MSI 980ti) is around 27-28cm long and there is not much of a gap between the card and some of the internal structure of the case. And I won't do 4K gaming either so might be overkill?

I went from sli 780ti’s to a 2070 super.
Big big difference.

This enabled the move from 1080p to 1440p

then to a 3070. Again a noticeable jump. With most of the titles I play achieving 144fps with a small fettling of settings.

then managed to snag a 3080. Again a very noticeable increase in performance. Which absolutely destroys 1440p 144fps in everything I play. It’s almost boring setting everything to ultra, and having to cap the frame rate. (Not played cyberpunk yet tho...)

Warzone,BF5,BF1,Cold War,Insurgency Sandstorm.

A 3070 will do you fine, unless you manage to find a 3080. That’s my recommendation.

I went from a 980ti to a 2070 super last year as i run 3440x1440 100hz as it was starting to running crap, and i got atleast double the fps in all my games massively been happy with mine and would have jumped to a 3080 if i could get ahold of one!

I know I recommended a 3080 earlier, but having read your previous posts then I think a 3070 or 3060ti would be fine. 3080, well, at least you can actually use it with that monitor so it's not a waste. However, most 3080 cards are bigger than 28cm. Most are 29 upwards and the 3070's are about the same size. There are a few 3060ti's that are smaller ... if you can actually find one. Perhaps your best bet is to just wait a bit longer until there are more two fan cards around?

3060ti, faster than 2080s, not far behind a 3070. I think it's also probably easier to find a 3060ti, it's price depenedent of course, and with you having size issues (ooh err) it might be a better bet.

Overkill?? What is overkill when it comes to GPUs, I don't recognise the term? The 3080 certainly can't play all newer games at 4K Ultra 60 it's literally around the bare minimum I'd want for 4K gaming but fair enough if your case won't fit a 3080.

I've been using StockInformer as a way to casually observe the sheer speed at which stock disappears. It's incredible. Even a competitor that's partly named after a stellar explosion that was selling 3060 Ti's for £518 sold out instantly. Madness.

Went 980Ti to 2080Ti (2nd hand) last month and well pleased. Will do very nicely for at least a year, when I can then see what the market is like.
