Is it worth it?

The only reason I want to is because amazingly, my 8800GTS seems to struggle playing back 1080p videos.

Is this likely to be the cards fault or could there be another reason? CPU?

Also, is it worth getting a 1GB 4070 or should I stick with 512MB?

Thanks

hi there

Your 8800GTS should really not struggle with 1080p!, as we speak im on my laptop and that plays 1080p on a radeon HD2400!. There has to be something wrong, what are the temps, do you have the latest drivers? it may be faulty? Just guessing here :P

PS have you tried driver sweeper and reinstalled the drivers?

Are you watching DVDs on yours? If so I imagine that might be slightly different?

I'm watching downloaded content. Files sometimes exceed 8GB and I get stuttering and brief moments out of sync especially in action scenes.

What software are you using to play it?

I am using PowerDVD to play high def on my laptop, i have dragged my DVD's over to my laptops HDD so i am streaming off my hard disk. Never had any problems and my graphics card is way less powerful than yours

Laptop specs:
CPU t5450 C2D 1.66GHZ
Radeon HD2400 128mb Vram
4gig ram
hitachi 5400rpm HDD

what CPU are you using?

Its definitely not the 8800gts, im using it one of my systems and it works perfectly with hd 1080p content, maybe cpu (horsepower) / program / codec related / or possibly disk access - activity related

list your system spec, program your using to view and codecs installed

Tried with KMPlayer and VLC.

Plays 720p fine but struggles with some of these 1080s.

Possibly the processor, still got an old Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 (2.13ghz) Socket 775 FSB1066 2MB Cache from a few years ago.

My system doesn't feel slow at all though, plays games fine. Got OCZ 4GB (2x2GB) PC2-8500C5 1066MHz Dual Channel Platinum Series DDR.
