Does the 12GB VRAM over the 8GB in the 3060Ti not compensate for the slower GPU? Playing FC6 and the hi-res pack says 12GB VRAM needed so would be happy to go for a 3060 with 12GB rather than a slightly faster, but more expensive, 3060Ti and have less VRAM.

Considering I'm on a 1660 Super surely a 3060 is better for 2560x1440 gaming than my current card? The 3060 might not be my best option but for the price isn't it a better bet than the 1660 Super?

Agree would say 3060 more of a 1080p card. Just goes to show you I bought a 3060ti early December for £528 from another retailer.
Good price you got there. :)

Yeah you could buy a 1080p card to game at 1440p with increased memory for the price of what the 3070ti will eventually drop too. Compare them. Be patient man I have the £1000 bucks they want for 3070ti but they can keep the card at moment. P.s 3070ti uses DDR6x which is double bandwith of DDR6. Just my opinion. I game on 1660ti at moment.

A 3060 should give you close to 50% more performance, and in situations where you want to use raytracing and/or DLSS we're talking it being many TIMES faster. So a decent upgrade all in all, but right now you might want to wait, crypto market is crashing so you might be able to get a decent GPU for cheaper over the next 2-3 months.

Based on the MSRP of £300, the RTX 3060 would be a fantastic upgrade over a 1660 Super.

We all have different limits so decide for yourself how many % you would be happy to go over the £300 MSRP. Personally, I wouldn't pay more than 10% over MSRP because I don't want to get ripped off.

I have a 3060 and it's a very competent gaming card even at 1440p, provided you're willing to shoot for something akin to Digital Foundry "optimised" settings rather than needing to use the "ultra" preset in everything. It'd certainly be a nice upgrade over a 1660 Super. However, I wouldn't pay anything like £580 for one. I paid £401 for mine and that's the high end of what I'd say they're worth.

I didn't know that 3070Ti used DDR6x. Sounds like a good reason to wait until they become more affordable. Can stay with the 1660 Super. Just wondered if the 3060 was good value for money. Seems it isn't brilliant value but better than the 1660 Super. Really wanted to be able to jump to a 3070/3070Ti but prices being what they are wondered if the 3060 was a decent stop gap.

Ah good news about teh crypto market crashing then. So hopefully I can get a 3070/3070Ti for a decent price later in the spring or early summer.

When you put it that way it does seem silly to spend almost double the MSRP on a half-decent card.

Wow! Almost £200 more than it is costing now. Crazy times. Think I'll wait for a 3070/3080 to be more affordable as the 1660 Super will suffice for now. Would be nice to have a GPU I can actually use to run games at high/ultra settings and not just make do with lower quality settings.

Wait for intel
Intel what? Are Intel starting to make gaming graphics cards then?

Stick with what you have at current pricing and see if you can find an RTX3060TI FE. An RTX3060TI is what I would be aiming for:

It will double your performance providing your CPU is powerful enough. I use one at qHD myself but IMHO its the minimum I would feel comfortable with going forward a few years.
AMD Ryzen 5 3600. I'll keep an eye out for a RTX3060Ti.

Yes, due by the end of March. Worth waiting for imo, gives you more options.
I think I'd heard something about this but wasn't expecting them for a while nor to be potentially rivals to AMD and Nvidia. If Intel can pull something out of the bag and give mid/top-range AMD/Nvidia cards a run for their money hopefully we'll see some kind of price cuts on the existing cards.

And pigs might fly (re the price cuts not Intel cards rivalling existing ones although I guess the comment could apply to both!!). :D
