upgrading hdd on 4gb black 360

If I were to buy the 4gb slim and put my 120GB drive in (from my broken Elite) would there be any chance of being banned from Live or having my warranty void?

Thats what i have done and its been fine for 2 weeks. The drive is unmodified and the Caddy just changes the connection so your not really changing anything. MS have no reason to ban people for using their old drive other than it stops them selling drives in cases for extortinate profit...

I'm surprised everyone is saying 4GB hard drive ... the 4GB 360 uses flash memory - an extra tiny board that is connected internally to the motherboard, leaving the HDD bay empty.

4gig hard drive? That is just crazy. Who would buy something with that in it other than the OP ;)

I have more space on my phone :p

Whats the point of it?

Well seeing as it was gifted to me, i was hardly likely to turn it down was i?
That leaves me some mulla to go buy a bigger hdd.

I do have the old 20gb elite and having looked on the tube there are some vids showing how you can use that and it works fine.
Or, i may just buy an official 250gb drive since i saved on buying the console in the first place.
I might buy the kinnect thing, so i'm guessing that will require some storage for its bits n bobs? (saved games etc).

Speaking as someone with the 250GB, the HDD is a great thing to have. Console is extremely quiet with games installed to it, and I never have to worry about not having enough space or deleting things to make room for new stuff.

I bought the 4gb as the Matt black looks nicer than the Horrid shiny black. I,m using my old 120gb drive so works out cheaper as well as i have no need for 250gb....

Don't you still have the inherent problem of storage selection on the 4Gb, with it not detecting a HDD installed and having to select it as primary save device on each boot?

Couldn't be bothered with that.

Games will ask you which storage device to use, that's all. Wasn't really a problem when I had an Arcade unit with an HDD added.

Now got my 120GB in my 4GB Slim supported by the foam from the Slim packaging (nice one MOOGLEYS :D). Works a treat.

Very happy. Might buy a proper enclosure for the drive at some point, if I see it a good price.

Just found this on the xbox forums not sure how official the information is but though I'd post it here.

Removing the old HDDs from their casing, for use in a 360 S console or other reason, is against the ToU, hardware tampering and modification. At no time is this tolerated. Modifying your hardware can lead to account suspensions or console bans.

In addition, we will not tolerate this type of discussion on the forums. If you are found discussing this practice, you will be suspended or banned from the forums.

I believe its OK to put older hard drives in and it would be stupid if MS did start banning people for this.
