Hey All,

My Sapphire X1900XTX just sold for a very good price on that well known auction site so I have decided to treat myself to a BFG 8800GTS OC 320mb, now the question is will I see a vast improvement over my X1900 which had 512mb of memory.

I game mainly at 1680 x 1050 which makes me believe I may struggle with only 320mb of memory but i have been assured by others that it should be fine. I just wanted to see what you lot thought.

I mainly play Battlefield 2, Counter Strike Source, Colin McRae Dirt, Test Drive Unlimited and Tomb Raider Anniversary but will also be testing World In Conflict when it becomes available.

Has this been a wise move or one shall I regret.

Here is the rest of my system spec:

Intel C2D E4300 @ 3ghz
2gb OCZ Platinum Rev 2 PC6400
Hiper 580W Modular PSU (yes I have read about them failing before you start)
Gigabyte 965P-DS3

Thanks a lot, Sam

You should see a performance boost, i kno other people who's got the 320GTS and playing at 1680 x 1050 and they said it ran fine, although it might of been an idea to get the 640GTS to be on the safe side like i did.

Thats the reason I went for the 320mb, I am using it as a stop gap until 6 months down the line when I sell it for probably £80 and buy another £200 card, would rather do that than spend £300 every 12 months.

If there is a thing as future proof, get the 640 meg, but in 6 months time... it will no doubt be a very different story !

Dont say such depressing things as that. Im likely to be getting the 768MB at a small fortune. but im gona wait till after the G9 comes out in November so hopefuly it will be at about 300 quid instead of 370!

definitely agree 640 gts is best card for 1680x1050,

problem is the newer games and the games to come can;t run well at 1680x1050 on a 640gts, so you will probably end up having to drop resolution or details to get good framerates and the added memory will become less of a difference.

I had both and found the 640gts didn't really cut it at 1680x1050 without dropping eye candy, when i had a gtx in that just about destroyed anything i put in front of it.
