Hi chaps...

I currebtly have a really nice Viewsonic VX912B. I've had it for 18 months now and love it to bits.

However I really like the idea of getting a widescreen TFT.

To be honest I was thinking of getting a 20.1" Widescreen but I dont want to make the mistake of getting one and then kicking myself becuase the "upgrade" simply wasnt large enough.

I 'm not spending as much on PC parts as I used to and the idea of always having to get the very best gfx card (or even consider SLI etc) just to keep up with say a 24" screen doesnt appeal too much.

So basically I have a couple of queries;

1) Will an upgrade from my 19" TFT to a 20.1" Wide TFT be worth while?

2) Would I be better off getting a 24" and seeing the real difference?

3) How would my current setup handle both the 20.1" & 24" Wide TFT's

4) is it likely that I will continue to have to upgrade (at every new launch of gfx)if I go with either screen?

5) What would you do if you were in my popsition with my setup?

Thanx a million!

hi, i hope im not hijacking this thread, i was going to post along similar lines so instead ive added my own distinct personality to youre collective.or something.

i too am considering an upgrade to a 24" widescreen lcd (the dell one)

but im worried that to run games at that kinda native resolution is gonna take some serious grunt:- is my system going to be up to it ??

For decent performance on a 24" widescreen monitor, and to play games at its highest resolution, your going to need a top card with 512 meg of ram . I ran 1680x1050 on my 7900GT and it struggles with some games at that res.

You dont necessarily have to play games at the native monitor res mate. bear in mind some games dont actually support that resolution so in some cases you are forced.

Non native resolutions on the 24" lcd`s ive seen, are not clear and sharp, very lcd screens are. Of corse some makes are better than others, but on the whole the native resolution should be used. 24" screen, thats the whole point surely to use the optimum res, nice BIG and sharp !

in reality my VX2025WM (thats 20.1" WS) is basically an elongated 17" TFT. By that I mean the height is the same as my 17" but the horizontal view is quite a bit larger.

24" would be much bigger indeed, more like an elongated 19".

however for £330 is brilliant, games are far more njoyable on it.

hope this helps :)

Cheers lads...

I'd really like the 24" then I think... how do games look when you use a 24" widescreen but only display say 1650x1050 (or whatever the 20" wide res is)?

Does the screen simply add black borders or does it scale the image to use the whole screen but less pixels? Whats the quality of the image like.. for gaming that is?

Also, has anyone got any pics of a 19" TFT next to a 24" Widescreen and a 20" widescreen?

I'd particularly like to see 19" next to a 20" wide.

:0 Thankyou!!

With the 24" Dell, you have 3 options for signal input that is not of native resolution. Scale to fit the screen, 1:1 or keep aspect ratio. I tend to go for the 1:1 mainly if the thing I'm playing or whatever is above 1280, otherwise I have it so that the screen changes the image to fill the screen with the original aspect ratio :)

Hope that helps ;)
