Uploads kills download speed

Hi all,

We have a Draytek router on our connection here at work, it is an 8meg ADSL line which syncs at 8ish meg. Whenever we do any uploads of more than a few meg it kills our download speed and everything grinds to a halt.

Anyone have any idea what it could be?

It's how TCP/IP works, you need to be able to send acknowledgement packets and if you're upstream is saturated this is difficult, limit the upload speeds.

Limit your uploads using either software on the inddividual PCs or possibly the router.
Saturated upload will cripple your DL speeds

Thats quite a low connection if you have quite a few users. If just a handful then not so bad.

8mb is perfectly fine for an sbe connection, if, as a company, you do a lot of uploading, then it might be worth investing in something a bit more substantial but if its only occasional stuff then just limit the upload just under the max capability.
