I'm looking to upgrade my current gaming rig to something with a little bit more grunt so I can run at 1440p 60FPS. It's been a long time since i've even attempted to build my own PC, 20 years or so. I was going to go fo the following:

GX-34F-MS MSI GeForce GTX 1080Ti Gaming 11264MB GDDR5X PCI-Express Graphics Card
CA-186-NX NZXT Source 340 Elite Midi Tower Case - Black
HS-046-TT Thermaltake Water 3.0 Riing RGB 240 AIO Cooler - 240 mm
MY-10R-GS G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-33000C19 4133MHz Dual Channel Kit (F4-4133C19D-16GTZR)
MB-32J-MS MSI Z370-A Pro Intel Z370 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
CA-012-EA EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
CP-63R-IN Intel Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz (Coffee Lake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - Retai

I'm nponly going to ever have a single graphics card, is the mothernboard overkill? Is the processor powerful enough? And will that water cooler fit the case?

I've already got storage from my curent build.

Many Thanks for your help

welcome, gtx 1080ti will run 1440p 60hz/fps easily - saving cash gtx 1070/70ti/80 would do that as well . if your screen is 144hz and not 60hz then 1080ti is worth the upgrade .

whats your current system? and whats your budget ? also, do you prefer MSI brand ?

Hi - And thanks for the reply.

Graphics card: Gigabyte Aorus GeForce GTX 1060 Xtreme Edition 6144MB
GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.00GHz (Devil's Canyon) Socket LGA1150
Processor - OEM
Motherboard: Asus Z97-K Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard
Memory: TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 8GB (4x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9
1600MHz Dual Channel Kit

The screen isn't 144Mhz, it's 60Mhz so yeah i could majke quite a saving there.

I'm not brand fussy really. Could I just maybe upgrade my graphics card?

gtx 1070 , unless screen has freesync ?

games ran at 1080p will push CPUs or if you plan to play a lot of BFV online , then finally 4 core intels start to show their design age - but still run acceptable
