Hi,

I need an UPS for a server and 2 workstations. Both workstations have 2 x titans, so the power draw will be quite heavy. Are there any options out there which would do the job? Can't find any which are high enough power from a quick google...

Cheers!
Matt

Can you plug your workstations to a energy meter to check its max power draw.

Check this 2 units out, but they are not cheap Liebert GXT3-6000RT230 or APC Smart UPS RT 8000VA RM.

The price really jumps when you go over a certain level eh! They're a bit rich for me. I did find this one:

PowerWalker VI 2000 PSW/UK 1400W Pure Sine Wave IEC UPS for £200

which I will try using with the server and one workstation, and maybe double up if I find I really need it on the other as well. Will pick up a power meter as well.

Be carefull when using cheap ups as most of them have inadequate or no battery protection to stop it from overheating.

I learned this the hard way by using some cheap ups, the battery has gone faulty in less than a year but the ups was not able to detect this and keeps charging the battery until it overheats and started leaking acid which was messy.

If you intend on getting a cheap ups anyway the only advise I can give is change the battery yearly.

Just as an update. Bought the Powerwalker VI 2000 PSW, it works well for one workstation and server (25% usage at idle, rising to 70% load) and the monitoring software via usb works well. There is one major issue though, which is fan usage. The power supply to my home seems to be on the very edge of acceptable (hovers around 252v) and when it hits 253 it activates the voltage regulator in the unit and the fan which is fairly noisy - around 48dB 1m from unit. The fan won't stop until the voltage drops to below 247, so it runs for long periods of the day. When its not on it's silent, but the on/off nature is almost more annoying than a constant noise.

I've been trying to find a high voltage silent UPS with absolutely no luck at all, if anyone has any recommendations would love to hear them. Looking for around 3000va units to cover both workstations and the server.
