Hello!

My hard drive is making some strange noises. I've ran a Windows Check Disk which reported some errors, but I'm wondering if there are any better tools to run? Or if not better, just any other tool to see if it finds errors as well...

Thanks for any help! :)

I know Speedfan has a hard disk tab where you can interrogate the drives S.M.A.R.T. info, which I believe gives an indication of the drives health.

Although that's true, if it were me, i'd much rather use the DLG Diag program (or even the old maxtor test that works with all brands) as a test. The ultimate boot CD has many on it, might be worth just burning one of those.

Making noises?

I would suggest you backup any critical data if you have not done so already before running any diag tools that will inevitably stress the disk more.

Hey thanks for all the help!

I'm going to backup again tonight. :) It hasn't done it again since last night, and since running the Windows Checkdisk (and repairing some issues) everything else checks ok out. The WD Tool reported all the SMART values as above their thresholds so all the drives appear fine.

Nevertheless... can't be too careful! Fingers crossed, otherwise i'm moving to SSD. Hehe.

Thanks again! :D
