Hi guys

In my previous thread (loooooong load times) I explained a problem I've been having due to the fan failing on the motherboard.


Anyway, I need to have the computer working so I am looking at the Asus A8N32-SLi Deluxe nForce4 SLi X16.

Does everything fit in it fine with all that passive cooling?

Will a 6800GT graphics card fit in?
Will an Arctic Silver Freezer 64 fit?

Basically has anyone had any trouble fitting components in?

Has anyone had an issue with this board...or would you recommend the cheaper premium version over the deluxe?

ive just bought this to replace my DFI UT SLI-D because its silent... mmmmm silence is golden.. lol

but no this is a wicked board, fit my bfg7800gtx 512mb in without any probs,and it use's a dual slot cooler.. even with 2 in it still has some room for breathing. :D
 
Amazing amount of space, considering whats packed onto the board. Have a Scythe Ninja Plus fitted along with the sli'ed 7900's, and there seems to be more space than on some boards with half the feature set.

Interesting what you say about the amount of space, does that apply across the whole board?

I was reading a review of it on hothardware.com and it was saying about how little room there is if you have sli running...I have a creative Fatal1ty X-fi, no other PCI cards as yet but you never know...is it still going to give me the room to upgrade?

(sorry about all these questions but I have to be sure...I'll be ordering it at about 10:00 today, and I have to get either that or the A8N-SLI Premium).

I've just been reading in the A8n-SLI premium thread that the chipset gets very hot if the motherboard is mounted vertically as obviously heat rises.

Has anyone had any experience of this?
 
One thing to be carefull of when purchasing memory is that with big HS's like the big typhoon you will not be able to use the memory socket closest to the heatsink with large memory modules (such as Corsairs XMS pro range) as they will touch the heatpipes of the HS.

How else can you mount a motherboard in an ATX case other that vertically? I assume you mean 'upside down' such as in lian-li cases. Yes, you will notice a rise in chipset temp as the heatpipe is not designed to be that way up(a8n32). Solutions suggested are to replce the heatpipe with individual heatsinks which work well. There are no such problems in standard atx cases afaik.

You can use ONE pci slot if you go sli with 2x dual slot coolers such as the 7900GTX. And then the gap is so small you will be cutting off a lot of air from the heatsinks on the cards. With single slot coolers there is no problem at all.

I used a XFI music with my 7800GTX 512mb without problems and also placed it under the 7800 just to prove it could fit.

I am beginning to shy away from that board now as there does seem to be the possibility of heating issues.

If your CPU is at the top, and the PCI slots are at the bottom, then that is the conventional right way up. With Lian cases, the board is mounted on the left hand side of the case, if looking from the front. That means that the board is then upside down, with the CPU at the bottom, and the PCI slots at the top.

I managed to fit a Scythe Ninja Plus, with Mushkin Extreme Redline memory in the first and third slots, with no problem whatsoever. The board is also SLI'ed with a couple of 7900 GTX's.
