Many thanks,

Will almost certainly be going through insurance I think. I'll lose my ncb and will have to pay £725 excess as well :(

Nearest Honda dealer is in Harlow so might look at them, that Rye Street Coachworks has been mentioned by a couple of people I've spoken to.

Not too sure what to do really, local body shop or Honda dealer? Any advantage of using one over the other?

I just feel sick at the moment to be honest, was on the way to work but can't do that now and have lost tonights earnings (contractor).

Thanks guys,

Neil.

Cheers Lopez, will keep that in mind.

Just went out with a torch to have a better look, one of the engine mounts looks like it has seperated from the chassis leg? And the wing has been pushed back quite a bit.

I've just spoken to Bell, the car will be going to Honda in Harlow.

Ring Honda and tell them you really want them to do the work for you but your insurance company will only provide you a courtesy car if you use their approved repairer (This is I believe the case with most insurers - check yours). Tell them that if they can arrange you a courtesy car for free, outside of the terms of your insurance, you'll make sure they get the work.

I did this and got a BMW 320i with 7 miles on the clock for 4-6 weeks instead of the Group 1 Corsa I would have got had I used the 'Approved Repairer'.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind when I speak to them tomorrow :)

Just had a bloke out to recover it to the Honda garage in Harlow, it was too low to fit on the ramp, another low loader is coming in a bit.

From looking in the light, the chassis leg is bent and the power steering is making all sorts of noises :o

He said it could easily price up to near 4K because of the labour + jig work :(
I'd rather they wrote it off than have something back that's been bent :( :(

Phew. Thought it had aftermarket wheels, huge exhuast, spoon socks and the like :p

You should be ok, touch wood :)
Everything else such as the exhaust was declared.
Like you say fingers crossed.

Still got my stock airbox back at home (140miles away) but the car went at 11 this morning so it's out of my hands now.

Spoke to the insurance co this morning, seems they are willing to pay for the repairs. Just awaiting the independent bloke to look at it and agree on the bill.

Weird part is the quote from the garage, £5K which is huge compared to the value of car which I'd say would be 6 to 6.5K on a good day.

Neil.

Thanks :)

Just hope they do a good job with nice panel gaps and colour match. Anything other than mint and I'm not accepting it.

On the other hand, I get to drive around in the 205 GTi for a couple of weeks :D

Here are a few pics, just the external damage. Chassis leg is slightly bent and the offside engine mount may have a little damage.

At least I'll get a nice new bonnet and front bumper/lip as all were showing signs of wear in cracks/chips.

I asked for it to be taken to the Honda dealer, but they don't actually have the repair garage on their grounds, it's a local company round the corner. They do work for BMW, Honda and Peugeot.

Some news, it's been wrote off :(

Going to send the insurance co my details required and they will start making me offers.

Neil.

Been reading an email they sent me, the following is at the bottom:

Can I buy the car back?

It is not our policy to allow this because the Government and the Association of British Insurers have issued guidelines to all insurance companies with specific instructions on what must be done with written off cars.

Only want to buy it back to sell the parts.

Neil.

Bit of a shame, I assume you wont be getting another?

EDIT: If you're breaking it, I may be interested in some stuff. /vulture
I'm buying another, already got a quote saved on the insurance companies website.
Will try and buy it back, but to px for another car possibly.

What a shame neil, on the upside your syncro is no longer an issue!

Hope you can buy it back, can't see why this would be an problem.
No more syncro issues, but buying another car without 'knowing' it could/will mean a few bills are expected.
