*URGENT* Fans for Bitfenix Shinobi Core USD 3.0 Case

Ignore the side fan read my last post! Does not have side fan mount.

Your board appears to be all 4 pin fan headers, I use a fan controller so I have no use for it. It's a nice feature though.

I would get 2x120 and 1x140 for top. If you can afford it get more! XD

Sorry, you are quite right (I am wrong - not for the first time).
Can see 7 fan fitting positions:

2 top, 2 base, 2 front, 1 rear. Thanks

You need to check if the fan headers are all 3 pin or 4 pin type as it determines whether you can go for the pwm type fans which enable you to let the bios vary their speeds. You will need a couple of fan header splitter cables so that you have enough connections for the number of fans. Dont forget your cpu cooler has a fan requiring a fan header connection. If you wanted a fourth fan, if you were going to oc, then I'd go for a 140 in the top just forward of the cpu cooler and use it as an intake to introduce some more cool air to the cpu cooler.

Also, check whether that case can take a fan in the side, I can see it has a vent there but not sure if it has a fan mount there.

Have just checked and the Fan headers are 4 pin, there are 4 (1 for CPU and 3 for balance). So guess I need splitters to connect 4 fans??.

Do most fans come with 3 to 4 pin adpators ? what I cannot see with most fans is if there is a description about pin numers - so how do I choose the right fan ?..

Sorry to drag this on.

Thanks

Sorry - only noticed this before my last post. (thanks for checking mb).

I can see I need 4 pin connectors, but many fans do not state whether 3 or 4 pin. Could you by any chance suggest any 4 pins fans ?(as per your suggestion 1 x 140mm, 2 x 120mm).

Many thanks.

The graphics card blows the hot air upwards and outwards, not downwards at the same time, nearly impossible. Exhaust at bottom would be exhausting the fresh air from the intakes at the front. The graphics card heat will rise in the case towards the processor heatsink. Bare in mine the intake at bottom would be almost infront of the graphics card, no reason for it to counter the intake fans.

3 or 4 pin fans will work on both 3 and 4 pin slots, the 4th pin is for the PWM. If you don't have PWM it will just run at full speed, same as if you use a 4 pin fan on a 3 pin header. 4 pin molex is different as it will run off the power supply.

The fans that thenewoc recommended were both 140 and 120mm PWM fans, should be a good setup though I've never seen reviews, check them out. :)

Fans are bought as either 3 pin or 4 pin, you can buy adapters to convert the fitting but it makes more sense to buy fans with the right fitting to start with. It would also be a bit dumb converting 4 pin to 3 pin, as 4 pin or also known as pwm type fans are more superior in terms of supporting varied speeds directly from the mobo, hence the zaward rd ones I've linked to. They also do some other colours btw.

Look for 4 pin pwm fans with wide range of rpm, high cfm as this is how much air they shift, and low decibel values for quietness.

The zaward ones are what I'm going for as I've read they are better than the akasa apache pwm type.

You can't trust the spec given by fan producers, they rarely live up to the claims they make. If you have done your research on them and they are better than apaches then they sound great.

Theres no need to buy an adapter for 3-4pin or 4-3 pin they will both work just 1 wire won't be connected. Might aswell just get PWM fans though, will save you getting a fan controller. Also you can probably control them in speedfan if you weren't happy with motherboards PWM.

  • Zaward Golf II Fan 120mm PWM ZG2-120B - black x 2

Add some more 120mm if you like but I reckon that would be a great starting point.

Nice looking fans.

Much appreciated, now seems quite clear.

Will follow your lead, 2 x 120mm & 1 x 140mm (for top).
(Already coming with 1 x 120mm).

Plus a splitter.

Great.

By the way, your 140 will go to the top fan header, front intakes to the fan header near the front of the case, and hopefully the rear fan can reach the header at the bottom of the board.

Amazing detail in replies, really really appreciated Brian and newoc etc.

So to finalise ignoring stock fan fitted, I think I will order:

2 x http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-032-ZW
Zaward Golf II Fan 120mm PWM ZG2-120B

1 x http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-034-ZW
Zaward Golf II Fan 140mm PWM ZG2-140B

1 x http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CB-071-AK
Akasa PWM fan splitter

And if I need more cooling at start or after O/C will add another top 140mm (I utilise stock fan on base - as in-take as suggested).

Good stuff.

Yes, good luck!

I would use the bottom as intake if you needed more airflow, and order another 120 and 140 for top. But I doubt you will need it unless you OC loads. I am OC'd on nearly no airflow, and that coolermaster you have is a bloody good cooler.

Hopefully you don't need an extention for the rear case fan, it does look long enough in reviews but may need to run it under the graphics card for it to reach.

Pleased I could help you, do post back your opinion on the fans as others can benefit from it. :D I'm getting interested in them now too hehe.
