I started installing my new Motherboard today, and it has a 24 plug ATX power connector. Touble is my PSU has an ATX connector with only 20 pins.

I thought ATX was a standard thing so all PSUs worked with all mobos?

The plug will still connect to the connector on one side, is this what I'm meant to do or do I need to get an adapter or even a new PSU?

Thanks for any help.

Most mobo's work with just the 20pins in as you describe you have fitted it.

You can buy a 20->24pin converter cable for a few pounds.

Apparently Mobo's tend to run more stably with the 24pin connector in situe.

[EDIT] Make sure that your PSU has a decent rating. No point in connecting a poor old PSU to your nice new board. If you have anything less than a 400w of a reputable make, i'd get a new PSU.
[/EDIT]
