I have just added another 2 x 512MB RAM modules to my PC, bringing the total to 4 x 512MB of RAM. The system POSTs fine, and Windows XP starts loading, but then I get a blank screen and the system reboots.

I have tried going into Safe Mode and Last Known Good Configuration, but the same thing happens...

The system is overclocked, but the RAM is in fact underclocked by 2Mhz, lol!

Any suggestions please?

Tried the new ram by itself? Taken the new ram out and tried the old ram by itself?

Or tried the new ram in the slots your old ram was? I presume they the same rated speeds etc.

Pretty much answered your own question...... You put some ram in, it doesnt boot, have you tried it with out the additional ram?

if it works with the original ram only - try these:

original ram in original slots
original ram in the different to original slots
new ram in original slots
new ram in different to original slots

should help with figuring out if its dead slots, incompatiblity, dead ram or what.

Alright... I have just tested it:

- original ram works in all slots
- new ram in original ram slots gives:

"system32\drivers\ntfs.sys is corrupt or missing" error

I am currently replacing that file from my Windows XP CD...

For a start i would run your entire system at stock.

Then make sure you have manually set the stated voltages and stated speed for your Memory.

Alright... system is set to stock, and when loading the Windows XP Setup (tried two different CDs), I kept getting an error saying it could not load a particular file. I put the old RAM back in and Windows XP Setup runs fine, and the system even boots fine without any missing or corrupt errors

Most likely bad Memory. Just to double check though i would try Memtest but sounds like faulty Memory to me. Me things RMA time.

Bought off another guy on these forums... and he used it in his machine all day yesterday to test it

I have also just read up elsewhere, that the problem I am experiencing is to do with bad RAM, so your theory is confirmed :(

Just send it back to me danger Danger.

Sorry about this.

I had it running all day in a VAIO PCV-RZ desktop.

System spec:

3.2ghz hyperthreading P4
320gb wd hdd
dvd-rw and dvd-rom

Only memory used was the golden dragon i sent you. From 10am to 3pm yesterday morning it updated windows fully and installed 3-4 programs with no problems whatsoever. More importantly the machine needed to restart several times which IMO tends to show up many faults.

The ram was run during that period at the rated speeds shown in the CPU-Z screen captures i sent you:

As i said in the email - just send them back to me and i'll refund your cash! :)

Sorry you've had problems, you were looking forward to getting them installed too! :(

I have had a similar problem after adding more RAM, however I've taken out the new new and put back the old but system now re-boots itself as soon as I click on my Windows account. Works (so far) in Safe mode.

Only other thing I've added lately (and then deleted) is the DIRT demo.

Help!
