Could it be the case that the missile was programmed to visit the American base in Iraq but encountered something more immediate so decided to take it out.

If that was an American plane with American passengers.... its goodnight Vienna.

No that would be two totally different types of missile (surface to surface vs surface to air) they would have totally different guidance systems and warheads.

Lol surprised the Iranian apologists haven’t gone back that far already tbh... :D

Bottom line is Iran was actively attacking US & Coalition forces, the US finally takes direct action in a surgical strike against the guys directly responsible for it, Iran has a fit, ends up with dead civilians thanks to poor crowd control, poorly coordinated air defence. And the usual suspects are like... but but the west/merica...

No need, there are plenty more modern (weeks/years) arguments against the US apologists arguments.;)

Remember kids, the Iran apologists are arguing there’s issues with both sides, the US apologists seem to be arguing that the US is an innocent victim of unprovoked Iranian aggression... as examples by the above, completely ignoring the attacks on Iranian forces by US backed forces.

No US plane would have been leaving that airport (due to sanctions) and no non diplomatic Americans would have been on a plane leaving Iran for similar reasons.

A lot of what ifs that wouldn’t have occurred, even before the point that the missiles in Iraq were different missiles to the one used in this incident.

But did you have the same view when Osama Bin Laden was killed? ...or al-Baghdadi?

That Soleimani was on the US terror watch list under Obama, Bush & Clinton, over 25 years he's been on the same list that Bin Laden and al-Baghdadi was

So basically, Trump orders the murder of someone, that country gets ******, they retaliate to US Army bases, they're on high alert, see movement in the sky panic, and shoot down an aircraft (civilian)

Well done Trump, well done.

Different type of missile. This happened after the attack on US bases when the Iranians were worried about reprisals.

"Murder" is a bit strong. He was a legitimate military target. Would you rather they use precision weapons to eliminate one target or is it better we all out war and have lots of deaths on both sides? Furthermore, the guy was so powerful and responsible for numerous attacks against coalition forces that it made sense to just end him. Kill or be killed, right? Trump didn't know that the response would be a stampede at the funeral, a crap rocket attack and the shooting down of a civvy airliner, he's not Mystic Meg. All sides are responsible for the outcomes but I know I'd much rather precise strikes against high value targets than a messy conflict involving all forces in the region.

Well done Putin for murder on UK soil.

The only difference is Putin doesn't need to win an election :)

Oh the irony........

So you honestly don't believe that a sovereign nation might be annoyed for while after having it's democracy overthrown by outside influence over resources that are rightfully theirs? How'd you feel if it happened here and I dunno, Corbyn was instated before going full Stalin? You'd be totally fine with that I guess going by this dismissive logic...

Oh and then we invaded two of their neighbors to put up democracies awhile later. All the while standing on some moral pedestal about how awful things are in the Middle-east. Pretty easy breeding grounds for contempt and recruitment. Though this argument is more of a general understanding of their behaviour for the last 40 years, it's not sympathy, it's merely coming to terms with foreign policy failures in the 20th century that affect us.

The solution was always to just leave, it's not difficult, we don't have to watch soldiers come back in coffins for achieving the square root of nothing. This isn't our fight and we shouldn't be where we don't need to be. Hopefully when the oil runs out, we'll have lost any tangible reason for keeping up appearances in the region.

Yep, 100% Trumps fault that Iran let cold war era missiles off in random directions.

Like I have already said, its the "LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO" defence.

And comparisons with the Vincennes incident are invalid.

On this occasion Iran shot down an airliner leaving one of its own airports.

USS Vincennes shot down an aircraft, albeit in error, that was heading straight towards it in the midst of a low level battle.

Any comparison between the two (As some have tried to make out) is frankly ******!

So the British Diplomat to Iran has been arrested for attending a vigil for the dead of the aircraft that turned into a protest, stay classy Iran.

Not surprising considering embassies and spying go hand in hand, it was too convenient for them to ignore when a protest agitated, they probably operate closer to stasi than more conventional police.

bit of a long time to hold a grudge - should Iran decide to just carry out terror attacks will you be there to exclaim "but but the West did something bad decades ago therefore our fault..."
